So this is the deal. I tried running a Minecraft server from my computer for a few friends, only to find out that my upload speed was not sufficient, not even close. So I need to host the server. This is the lowdown;
I'll be running a Minecraft Alpha server, with all the trimmings. Mobs enabled, PVP on...
The server should not exceed 10 players at any given time, in fact it should hover around 5-6 for the majority of the time, so I'm looking for a very small-scale server. As well, I plan to setup some kind of adminium block boundary for us to play in so that we don't end up straying too far from each other, so while the map will be big, it'll not be colossal in size.
What kind of price range am I looking at here? And can anyone recommend me any servers or whatever-may-work-to-run-this-smoothly, cheaply?
Depends on who you go with, whether or not you want to rent a server (vps) and run your own minecraft server, or just rent a minecraft server.
The cheapest option that requires the last work is to pay for a minecraft server, there are a couple of providers around and I recommend multiplay. The more expensive option is to rent a server (vps or dedicated) and then manage your own minecraft server, I would recommend avoiding this option unless you either enjoy system admin work or if you have the time to dedicate to it.
The cost of a server with multiplay is about $12 a month (£8).
