I'm unsure why everyone even wants compatible hey0 mods with this new server. Plugin authors will be given DIRECT access to see how the server actually works, thus increasing development time drastically. I bet once this server gets to a semi-operable state, any popular hey0 plugins could be rewritten within 1-2 days.

I agree. let alone the stability and such and that probability that they would perform 10 fold faster..
I mean people should just request them to "plugin Makers" once it's out.
In case anyone is curious, there's usually a somewhat recent build running on fknsrs.biz:25566. Everyone can use /give and /ctp, so go nuts with whatever you want.

I must be getting bad packets or something. I connect and it says logging in and boom the client freezes up. I use to get this on older version of the java server sometimes connecting to a server for the first time.

Yeah I just saw you logging in and then immediately getting disconnected.

I'll hunt down what might be causing that. A few other people were connected just fine though, so I'm not sure what could be happening...

I deleted my bin and downloaded the latest client well over again. No luck so I hope that helps out I should have nothing different then the standard client.
Psoden has set up a server running on an old thinkpad laptop, just as a proof of how few resources mineserver requires to run. It's a slightly older revision, just because right now there's a lot of changes making the main branch a little unstable. It's running on a Mobile Pentium 3 800MHz with 622MB of memory.
You can (probably) connect to it here: figuan.tontut.fi
NOTE: If you can't connect to it, it's down. It is an old laptop after all...

I just compiled it and ran it on my Atom based netbook in Lucid while running the client on the same computer. The fact that I can do that says it is great. Obviously it's not feature complete yet and a little buggy but it's fast and it has a solid feel to it if that makes sense.
Please keep up the good work. Remember developers, if you give it a good plugin API everyone will love you forever.

Yeah, because you need 10 times the resources to run anything written in it. Read: job security.

From everything I've seen notch just isn't a very good programmer. Or hasn't been properly devloping this for whatever reason.
A small annoyance of mine ( and many fellow Lua programmers ) is when people type LUA. That's like typing RUBY or PYTHON. It isn't a metaphor, it's a word. Lua is a really easy code, for simple things that is. Look at MTA ( Multi Theft Auto ) as a great example of the power of Lua.

^^ This. Lua means "moon" if I remember correctly, so it's a proper name and not an acronym, meaning the first letter should be the only one capitalised.

Yeah, it'll definitely be one of the default plugins.

So.. I was playtesting the fknsrs server, and realized how gorgeous the water physics system was. On the other hand that made me realize how different it was too.. in another sense.. The glitches that apply to normal minecraft water may or may not apply to this one, so.. for example water ladders don't work over here.
Minecart tracks right now don't work either. But.. will you people recreate all the glitches?
Most of the fun in minecraft comes from dealing with the glitches (boosters, water-ladders, traps via ladder-against-lava, and stuff like that). So... Isn't recreating all the glitches and south-west rules kind of exhausting?
Will you really do it?
That'd be awesome, and I don't know any other way to recreate "the minecraft experience".

I would be against the glitches. I think they also would not do it. But then again it does not stop people modding in the bugs.

The fact that he's implementing Lua support makes me love him more than a stranger should love a stranger.

Going into beta won't magically make Notch a better programmer. :wink.gif:

Maybe if he actually wrote SMP from scratch then just gutting out the client and adding some netcode? lol
