Throughout the Server Administration forums, people are always saying 75 - 100 MB per person on the server, you need more than a residential internet setup.
I run a server on my 4Core 2.9Ghz, 4 GB DDR3 custom pc, and get zero lag with 5 people at the same time, including me. I play minecraft on the same PC I host the server on. Zero lag, none at all. The only time it lagged was on a fresh map save after we built about 1000 blocks, thats it.
Why does such a small game take up so many resources? I'd assume the server would be very small and less resource requiring. Any ideas why? Oh, and does anybody know when the MineCraft server will be optimized for a quad core or dual cpu?
