Since many server owners usually roam these forums, I have a question.
I'm going to start a server, and rent a VPS online. I can afford it, but I was thinking whether or not people would help me support my server and its pricing. Do people give donations? If I started this server, I could really use the donations given to me by my users, and implement a reward system as well or something. I just don't want to pay the full price for the server online.
Well for one thing don't start one unless you know you can get a community to support your server. Having people be able to pay for Moderator can be a bad thing, but if done in a thought out manner it can be effective.
For example, do not let people who join your server for the first time and ask if they can pay for moderator be a moderator. Don't give moderator commands to donors, give VIP commands that don't involve kick and ban.
Donations are best when rewarded with something superficial...
Never reward a donor with power as it often breeds chaos; instead, give moderator powers to those who demonstrate responsibility and respectability.
