Should be able to use URL or map image.
Player name size should be able to be set by the client, then not change with zoom levels.
Option of persistent player names? Servers with low population would like this, I option to see offline players (where they logged off at) maybe there names would be grey and smaller.
any chance of having the MM auto-generate the map? I realize that this would require something like cartographer to be built into the MM client, and something to stream the map to the client from the server, but that would be much more usefull all said and done.

Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. THAT'S relativity.

If anyone wants an app that will keep the mini-map on top of all other windows go here http://www.labnol.org/software/tutorial ... -top/5213/ and download this http://www.box.net/shared/4ej5cqoekj. It's appropriately called always-on-top.
It is a simple line of code that when running allows you to select a window and hold ctrl+space to lock that window on top of all others. Tada, full screen game with a mini-map! Have fun!
Make it so that instead of showing your own position it shows a marker/dot that is ALWAYS in the center of the mini-map.
Then make it so that it moves the map overlay when you move instead of a dot like it currently does.
Then once you calibrate your map for the first time you would never have to mess with it again as it would follow you no matter where you go.
EDIT 1:The builder!
A grid overlay that can be adjusted in size from...
1x1 = 1 grid box equals 1 block
up to
100x100 = 1 grid box equals 100 blocks by 100 blocks
I keep getting java.net.MalformedURLException: no protocol: minecraft
I have the port forwarded and the plugin works(I can use /map in game).
What am I doing wrong?
Hmm. What port are you telling the map client to use? That almost sounds like you are trying to connect it to your minecraft server port, not your minimap server port. (I haven't tried that so I dunno what happens)

Sure. I plan to let you type in a character name to auto-follow. Remember the Minimap has no idea who you are because you don't log in with a user name to the map mod.
that way i can schedule timely map renders to my dropbox public account and the client can grab the map from there every so often. not to self, find a commandline way to rotate images...
Also now this is a hey0 plugin, maybe you can add the warps and homes as labels :smile.gif:
That could be nice but it could be really annoying if every time it grabbed a new map file and someone had explored around the boundaries of the map, you had to recalibrate it. If I ever manage to make maps auto-calibrate (would require a special cartograph build) then I will look into this further.
About warps and homes as labels; are the warps all just named locations, and are homes the places where players have used /sethome ?

Good idea. Easy to do, too. Though it might be hard to make look right when zoomed out.

Player name size is an option in the client config file. I will make a flag to make it stay roughly the same visible size when zooming. (The whole canvas gets scaled when you zoom, including names. So the name size and style is likely to fluctuate a bit, but I can make it appear to be about the same size regardless of zoom)
Persistent player names could make for a lot of label spam. If I add this it will be an option and won't update from the server often. Also it would lose all the labels when the server restarts so that they aren't around forever.

I forwarded and tell the client to use the default port 50192. I have no connection problems with my server.
the whole error is:

Ok, i think i am following what you are saying. It's awesome just to have what you have done so far so.... Anything else you add will be ALL WIN!
Any chance you could add to the end of your ever growing request list to produce a web embeddable version of the client? So that a server admin could add the map to a page on their site. Probably produce a lot of overhead for the server, but that's not your problem :wink.gif:
I know nothing about what it takes to embed Java apps into web pages. I have a feeling it wouldn't work without a complete new web UI. Not worth the trouble IMO. But thanks for the suggestion.

So what it's wicked and maybe rather calling minimap call it a monitoring system LOL I think this way more Admin useful :smile.gif:
