I'm having trouble getting the server going, any chance you could help? I'm just trying to use it for two computers in my home. I ran the server.jar and all the files are in the directory I put it in but I'm kind of confused as to where to go from here. Thanks in advance :biggrin.gif:

Are you planning on having people from outside your house play on the server? If so, you're gonna have to go into your router and portforward 25565 (or whichever port you'd like).
If not, and you want it to be you only and maybe someone else in your house to play on the server, just double click on the Minecraft_server.jar and let it run. It will give you "NOT ENOUGH RAM" warnings but just ignore them if you're only going to have a couple players.
Hi, thanks a lot for your post, I'm using it for beta but I have a problem, when i open the .command file it just appear this: /Users/~/Desktop/MinecraftServer/BootBetaServer.command ; exit;
[Process completed]
And it just don't boot up again :S
Open your .command file with textedit and PM whats inside of it.
It says "Connection Refused" even though my server.jar is open.
Halp.
Connection refused means that something is blocking players from entering, like your ports could be closed or blocked by something, or your server isnt listening for incomming connections.

Yea, I'm just using it for two laptops in my house. Got it working, thanks for the help!

I'm having a problem. When I got to the "Now click on BootAlphaServer.command and the server should boot up." step, it... didn't. I just got an error message. (No screenshot, sorry)
Then about half of the files in the folder I made for my server got deleted and I can't regain them, since if I try to open minecraft_server.jar it tells me that there's already a server on that port.
So basically, I'm so frustrated that my head is about to explode like this guy's. Can anybody help me?

What error message was it when you tried opening it?
If half your files got deleted Im betting the server launched and for some reason created all the files again and over wrote the ones you had.
You must make sure all intances of the server are closed. Press option + command + esc to open task manager for mac and force quit any instances of the server. Another way to for sure kill it is to just restarted your computer.
If that doesnt work, then Ill need some more information.
I went through the entire guide step by step and seem to have made the server correctly. I was able to access it through the computer I am using, and it seemed to run fine. However, when a friend tried to access it, the connection timed out and he couldn't. He was trying to access it externally, not on the same network.
When I did the portforwarding, I was unable to check if it was open, so I think that may be the cause. But then again I am completely new to this and have no clue what I'm doing.

Howdy!
You can check to see if ports are open by going to canyouseeme.org and entering the port.
Usually though if it timed out that means the port is closed or blocked.
The general rule of thumb I follow is
connection timed out: port closed or blocked
connection refused: server not listening for incomming connections for some reason
There are exceptions obviously but this is what Ive found.
For port forwarding, make sure you check both TCP and UDP for protocol and put the IP of the computer you have the server running on. (it will start with 192.168... or 10.11....)
Hi Swook, I'm trying to add the minegunner mod to my server but it also has some icon textures and sound effects, would i add the files, (ie the ogg for sound and such), the same as the .class files? Or is there something different i have to do?

First of all, are you sure thats a mod you can apply to a server? From my understanding most of those mods are for single player but I looked and couldn't find anything saying its meant for single player only. If the textures and sound effects are .class files, yes you would apply them the same way. If not, I dont actually know.
Ah, i didn't think of that, i'm looking in the minecraft_server.jar file now and i don't see anywhere that the icon files or sound files would go, there's no folders for them really. That's a shame, i was hoping for a nice gunfight on my server :tongue.gif:

Yea, it does suck, a lot of those mods are really cool.
Hey guys. I wanted to help out by sharing a website for port forwarding. It's called port map and the website is http://www.codingmonkeys.de/portmap/. I have had an SMP server for a while now and this program works great it automatically connects to your ip adress and all you gotta do is enter 25565 and run it when you turn on the server. Also can you confirm if bukket works or not? I would like to implement this to my server but I want to make sure it works. Thanks.
I have created my server with the :25565 I.P. thing. How can I invite my friends?
Thanks.
