I FIGURED IT OUT! For anyone who still has a problem with ram watch this link on how to do it on a windows 7 computer.
This helped me on Win XP as well.

i am really not good with computers but i have the same problem so could someone take me through this step by step p.s. it says it completes but nothing happens
I seem to be having this problem too. I watched the youtube video posted, and unfortunately, neither of the 2 solutions seem to help though it did help me get the run.bat file labeled as a batch file properly.
When I run it, it opens up the command prompt for about 1 second, then closes it before I can read it. I can make out that there is an error happening, but because the prompt closes so fast I have no way of taking a screen shot in time. Any ideas on how to figure out what my problem is?
I tried running the java updater ("jucheck") and it tells me I have the latest java platform on my system. Good idea though.
*EDIT* I was able to get it to work when I copy/pasted the code from Calzoneman's post into my run.bat file. Thanks!
I'm not sure why that particular copy/paste worked and the one(s) from the youtube vid didn't (I know it wasn't the extra minus sign). but I am happy either way. I appreciate the help!
When I added the pause at the end of the command- java -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -jar minecraft_server.jar, it was telling me it could not find mincraft_server.jar. I also noticed that the server application was an .exe so all I did was change the .jar to .exe like so-java -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -jar minecraft_server.exe, and poof! it worked. Hope this helps :smile.gif:
java -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -jar "C:\Users\(User)\(Location)\minecraft_server.jar"

That is the command I use to run it.
Just insert your comp user, and the location of the file, then put it in command pormt.

It took me less then a minute to make that...
The only bad thing is that the command promt NEEDS to stay open for the whole entire time you use the server, otherwise, It'll screw up.

i have this problem too and since im not the only one is it caused because of the bugs in the server software of just some wierd individual computer thing ?
It works perfect even when its about 15players on my server. And i got for some reason better performance without the "Xms" flag.
I only use 2 cores and 2gb atm on my server.
This helped me on Win XP as well.

Works like a charm. Thanks!

java -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -jar minecraft_server.exe
then, change the name of "Minecraft_Server.exe" to "minecraft_server.exe" (no caps)
Worked for me.

Are you gonna dedicate all 8gb for your minecraft server?
You can set that up for example.
My startup line is:
It works perfect even when its about 15players on my server. And i got for some reason better performance without the "Xms" flag.
I only use 2 cores and 2gb atm on my server.
