Well
screen -X stuff 'save-all' puts the right command there (no "/" since it is directly into the console) but it also is just typing the '^M' there as well, and I am having no luck getting it to do anything otherwise. I am trying to get the command to run before this in a shell script:
I'd just like to add to this that Linux server admins might want to look at my server wrapper/tunnel viewtopic.php?f=1012&t=27756
It provides a lot of features that could help manage your server more effectively :smile.gif: And it is also a java application and runs in a terminal (no gui!)

hey guys, just a quick scenario, after looking around i'm getting the idea that 256MB of ram on my klunky old server might not be enough to run this, but I might as well check with you before I run out and buy a new rack
has anyone expirienced such a sudden stop before? am I launching it wrong? the java seems to be fine, so I can't help assume it might be the poor hardware
P.s. - I have tried it with the Xmx and Xms set at 1024 like in the guide, but I'd be interested to know what those represent, amount of memory allowance?
Since I always run minecraft in a screen called 'smp', is it possible to make a script for cron that would check to see if that screen exists, and if it doesn't, start the server?
so whats the current state of smelting? my furnace only ever loads to halfway, I assume that's the "furnace glitch" or whatever, is there any way around this? specifically for making glass, I tried using that fix, but it made problems for when I went to run it, and the furnace still didn't work (does anyone have a copy of the fix they have working? maybe i'm just raring it wrong)
Now this is strange. Could it be that the server software isn't allowed to write in this folder or something similar? Though it obviously is able to atleast generate parts of the server.properties file. :/

Not working atm, and will not get updated in the near future, sorry.

cp -R ~/minecraftserver/worldmap.png ~/minecraftserver/backups/backup1/world
So that the shell script forces a save-all, then copies the directory.

xmx: Size of the memory the server can expand upon.

Though, if you're not in the furnace menu when the fire goes out, your items will be eaten.

Thanks for the reply. :smile.gif:
I settled on Simple Server Wrapper.
I don't get it.

Already tried redownloading the server software from http://www.minecraft.net/download.jsp ?

Is this the problem?
edit:
I figured it out, the OP's tutorial is incorrect as it installs an outdated java. You need to use this instead:
http://openjdk.java.net/install/
yum install java-1.6.0-openjdk
I got my server to start now, but hit with a new problem:
I put my server IP into minecraft and it says connection refused: connect
FTP or something? file commands in the console are not fun :sad.gif:
When i try to FTP to it I get connection refused.
