me and my friends own a server and we are trying to change the map but i cant for the life of me figure out how
Any help?
if you need more details let me know
I'm so confused. Alright, so, I opened up the folder for the multiplayer server, pasted in the name of the single player world, opened up the server, logged in to the multiplayer server, and it was the same as when I was playing on it earlier. Do I need to download a new server, or what?
so i just set up my own private server today
a couple of hours ago btw
and i just loaded my single player game into it and i loaded it
im no where near my old locations
whats going on!!!
is there any way that i could use the spawn points to get myself somewhere familiar?
will i still have all of my iron? and diamond and redstone?
does anyone know?
is this even in the right place?
thanks for any answer
I hope this helps of those that are struggling, its from experiences ive had over the last few days
Maybe the OP could incorporate some of this into the original post.

Issue 1:
Your World Loads as it did when you first started, with none of your buildings etc.
Possible solution:
Check the permissions on your files in the folder /world/regions
Your world has created with the same seed ie same terrain, but the saved information could not be accessed (mine was owned by root)
*******************************************************************************
Issue 2:
You are in a random part of your map.
Reason:
Hopefully your not too far away, the problem is the Single player has player data encoded in the region files (i think) and the server has separate files for players so it puts you in a random place.
Solution without editing files:
Load your single player game as you normally did, stand near one of your structures, press F3 to load debug and look at the x and z coordinates and write them down. Go back to your server file, press F3 again and move around to see the x and z coordiantes change. Now its walking time :tongue.gif: hopefully your within a few hunderd blocks.
If your in a really screwed up place (like embeded in rocks or something stupid) try borrowing the player file (renamed to your login) from another game (this will also give you the items that this player was holding at the time :biggrin.gif: )
Other Issues i had:
-It is IMPORTANT to use sun java, make sure to check with java -version that you removed ALL of openJDK
-If your are in your network use the local IP, outside use the external IP
-Use "ls -la" in world, world/regions and world/players to make sure all files are owned by the user that runs the minecraft server, use sudo chown and sudo chgrp to change any files that have a different user, helps with errors on launch of server like "couldnt get session.lock" etc
Um when I load the map, the world never loads, I am just floating in mid air, then when I try again, part of the world is loaded but just randomly ends, and when it is in that partially loaded state when you dig about 10 seconds later the piece I mine responds, but I get the resource. Any Help? Any is appreciated.
No replies is usually a good thing, it means no problems.
However, I do have a problem. No such folder called "smp_server" exists on my computer at all, after downloading the tools required.
The "smp_server" is just his personal filename for his server file. It varies from person to person depending on what someone wants it to be called. So just open your Minecraft server file. Hope this cleared thing up for you! :tongue.gif:
Well I'm a dumbass.
I did everything as the tutorial said. When I spawned in my server I flew around to my town coordinates and found a nice big ocean instead. Not sure what the problem was there.
I went to play my Single player file (Same file). I noticed that all I had was my backup world from a couple days ago. I check the folder that I copied the files from that I wanted on my server. EMPTY. Instead of copying my files I dragged and dropped them (I NEVER do this, EVER)... Apparently I did today though.
So I copied the files back from the Server folder to my Single Player Folder. Loaded it up. Ocean again and my inventory is completely empty =(
Currently flying around in MCEdit to see if I can find my town.
This will suck if it's not here.
Not the fault of the topic maker at all, it's all mine... But MAKE SURE YOU COPY YOUR FILES AND NOT JUST DRAG AND DROP. Make sure that they're copied before you even log in. Even for someone like me who's been toying with computers since he was 7 (almost 22 now), mistakes do happen.
The game somehow inverted the coordinates so instead of my town being
x:98
z:2039
It was
x:-98
z:-2039
That would have been a very very long run.
Luckily I was able to change my spawn point (Via MCEdit) and kill myself in the big ocean.
Still have no inventory items though, but all my chests are fine.
I have a problem, i managed to move my world to a server, but i can't destroy or place any blocks. I saw at the minecraft wiki that there is an option to allow players to break and place blocks, how do i modify this?
Also will doing this delete my multiplayer map that i already have up?
Yep! I did it!
It is basically the same
Find your single player world in
~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/saves/World1
and copy the contents of that file into your minecraft_server/world folder...
