I just downloaded my server to the default administrator/downloads folder on vista and ran it from there. Everything is fine, but after reading this and thinking about importing a level, I'm having this problem: I can't find my level for the life of me. Or the server properties, for that matter. The exe is in the folder, but I can't find anything else that's been modified today or even resembles the server files that have been generated. Is there any other folder it could have defaulted to? Thanks.

I Suggest that you re download the server software but this time before you run it make sure its in its own empty folder so you know which files belong to it and which dont (Minecraft_Server Creates some of its own files) then once its in there then rune Minecraft_server and it should create the world thats set in the properties files.

I love you...i will have a map with TREES
No problem also just a tip griefers will own all the tries (set them on fire) so if u add one block of leaves in ur spawn area with no wood attached the leaves will just keep dieing because there are separated from the tree but since its in ur spawn area the tree cant be removed hence a infinite sapling spawner, Enjoy

I tried this, but unfortunately is just created a new world. I still can't access my old map.
I went ahead and made a new thread on the support board, since this is sort of off-topic here. Thanks.
I did all the steps and forwarded my ports.. I get this error..
[INFO] Starting minecraft server version 0.1.0

[WARNING] **** FAILED TO BIND TO PORT!

I am using a D-Link router. Im not sure if that will help but im lost on what to do..
Yeah.. not likely. Everything there we did already (myself and brian), and leaves nothing more to be tried.
Looking around the forums gives me no solution, nothing we haven't tried yet, nothing we don't know about yet.
Multiplayer not looking so good anymore. But I guess newness = glitchyness.
I managed to figure out how to do this as soon as I realized where the server hosted it's world information. :happy.gif:
A few strange things I noticed though... Even 50+ blocks away from the spawn point, any block I destroy re-appears within a few seconds, and nothing drops. Torches, dirt, it doesn't matter. The world is completely static, even when a block beneath water is destroyed, the water doesn't flow to the new space.
I tried going in a direction that we hadn't explored before in single player. As I got close I noticed that more terrain hadn't loaded yet; then at a magic point before I reached the end of the world the game 'froze'. Something was pushing me back in the direction I came while I was simultaneously being pulled in the direction I'd attempted to walk. I was unable to move, although I could still look around and destroy blocks; of course they'd return after a few seconds.
Cyrik, that's because something is up with your connection.
Either you don't have something correctly noted on your server, or you have corrupt data in your server or save file.
The problem you're having is when information isn't moving from client to server. The client (being you playing the game) is sending data, placement of a block for instance, to the server. Normally the server will see this, and send back the block being placed, and allowing the client to update itself.
When there's no movement, the client gets it's own data it sent back, telling it something is wrong on the other end, and effectively deciding to not change anything untill the error is resolved.
That's why your blocks appear back every few seconds, nothing drops, and whatnot. That's all client to server back to client. Without a proper connection, nothing works.
Awesome, thanks AF. I'll figure out what the problem with the connection is when my room mate wakes up, hosting the world on his PC as oppose to my 4 year old macbook. :happy.gif:
Luckily, I can connect to and manipulate other servers just fine. :happy.gif:
I was making stuff in my own SMP server. I died, respawned in nothingness, and since nothing was happening i disconnected and reconnected. It generated a new level.

No problem. (Twas me on AF, finally found my personal account info. :tongue.gif:)
Good luck with your server, hoping it goes smoothly. Maybe with the other pc, it might actually run, rather then erroring. :biggrin.gif:
Sandvich (nom nom nom xD), Are you 100% sure it created a new level? Maybe it spawned you elsewhere on the map where you can't see your current structures. Unless your are completely positive they are gone, then you may have lost your map. I would suggest checking your minecraft folders to see if you made a backup, or copied instead of moved your single player save. (Since your post is here, I can safely assume it might be a single player map)
Also, maybe the server created a new world under a new name. Check and confirm if any of the names are the same, and you can backup and replace the maps in single player mode to confirm if there's anything missing or whatnot.
Remember that SMP is still hard to get working and has major glitches and errors, and it's always wise to keep a backup of your saves if you used your own personal maps for MP. Also, I wouldn't suggest using any single player map in MP yet because all chest contents are instantly gone upon load, all items in inventory disappear, and mass amounts of work can be lost if something massive occurs.

Did i lose my old level?
Yea im pretty sure, make sure your server saves the level befor you exit, also try looking for the map in ur server directory
Um. How do i load saves or use mods when im using a "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\javaw.exe" -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -jar minecraft_server.jar
server.
I really have no idea... everything works PERFECT for me,hmmm as for the 50 blocks away from spawn, im pretty sure notch did this so people cant like build a giant pit of doom hence u spawn and BOOM dead. not sure tho
Hoping someone can help me out. I followed the instructions and for some reason when i ran it it wasn't my single player map. So i looked in the folder where I had placed my world1 folder (same place as the orig server World folder), everything looked the same. I opened world1 folder to find out that there was another folder in there called world1. For some reason it made the server world1 folder inside my world1 folder from single player. Why did it do this? How can i fix it?
Hopefully I explained that clearly.
