Ok, so I've been wanting to host a server and when I asked my parents about the port on the router, and I explained to them what i was going to use it for. My dad goes no, because about security exploits via the router and such, so I'm wondering how secure is the Minecraft server software concerning ports and such and can a person get into the network via the server?
Turn verify-name=true. Problem solved.
If your dad is paranoid, do some of the following insanely paranoid actions:
Use OpenBSD
Use a VM
Separate the machine into it's own virtual network(dd wrt custom router firmware can do this)
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I disagree with you, therefore you are wrong.
Quality of output = Skill * Effort
if an open port would be so dangerous, then the internet wouldn't exist simply due to the fact that http servers always have port 80 open. Not to mention port 21 that FTP uses.
(only post if you know what you're talking about)
