Now, Lucifer seems to have mostly beaten me to saying this.. but making such an assumption that were a vast majority of regular Minecraft players to be aware and frequent these forums were not to care of any of the helpful suggestions other successful server OPs or admins, and even regular players may have that could better their servers or playing experience is.. well to me is ignorant.
It's not ignorance, it's pretty much reality as a whole. Sure, the could read this thread and look upon it's rules, and maybe they can take some good out of it, but there's also the very high likelihood that people will see this thread, forget what they read 15 minutes later, and run their server how they feel like. Because, in the end, it's still their decision, not ours. This is a good example of what I'm talking about.
In no way can anyone speak on behalf of of Minecraft players as a whole, because you can see even in this topic, that people do care. Weed through those of this forums that have tendency to spam or make useless remarks and there'll be lots of us who take things such as this into consideration and in most cases likely use it to mold our own guidelines and standards when playing on or hosting a server.
I can speak, statistically, about Minecraft players as a whole due to the now available statistics page on Minecraft, the amount of people here on the forums, and the amount of people out there in Minecraft plus servers and how many members they contain. I can also compare the servers advertised here to the servers done out there and compare how many would read this and use this ethos.
I know there is many of you who takes these kinds of things in consideration and I admire you all for doing so, since you are the ones that enjoy and stand out in the community. However, you must realize that not everyone shares our views and may never will. It is not that I disagree or hate this thread (hell, I have a well-written server ethos pinned in here), but I'm merely pointing out the fact that not everyone will listen to this list.
Lucifer you're always welcome back on my server Your castle was still intact and grief free with our constant backups until we started a new map :smile.gif:
I direct my ops to only let those out of spawn jail if they ask. I find that most people that don't ask turns out to be a griefer.
I'm doing my best as an Admin to create a grief-free experience. I have created a forum community, not one of those free ones, it has a proper domain and hosting, which has become popular for the regulars and it's a great way to keep users updated of the server info. I've looked into dedicated servers to help create 24/7 uptime. I did have one running dedicated for a week however it was too expensive for me at the moment. I have it running on my PC now, it hasn't been shutdown from my PC since I started it about a month ago, my system is stable. I prefer this to a dedicated server as I can quickly do a backup rollback quickly or fix a problem if one happens. Also, I OP most regulars (there are plenty) and have some from many time zones. They have a guide on the forum they have to agree to reading before I op then on the server.
I don't think it's right to complain about a server with a spawn jail, and no one online. This happens with mine sometimes when I am away and so are all the ops, but I leave the server online just in case an OP wants to join. This is better than not having the server online at all.
