I'm wondering if there is any form of profanity filtering (this goes for custom scripts) for minecraft? If there isn't, would you like to see the option in the server properties?

I'm not sure if this exists or not, but surely someone could make it>? I only wonder how you'd block; if its a simple blacklist, all a person has to do is purposely mispell the word, and they're around it. And there are countless possible mispellings, making it an almost impossible job to blacklist them all.
I suggest just stating it in the server rules and have OP's enforce it.
I agree, just having ops enforce an anti-profanity rule would probably be best, since "fcuk" or "fukc" or "fuk" or "fukk" or even "ffffffuuuuuuck!" would get past a filter, unless the filter was made such that it was so hard standard words were occasionally caught in it, which would be A Bad Thing, I think.
I've made a filter that work similar to - if these letters are in a sequence (so it doesn't matter if you get a ffffuuuccc---) then replace these characters with *. Its pretty strait forward and effective.
EDIT:
Anyways, deliberate misspells are only implying a profanity rather than directly saying it. I don't see anything wrong with implying anything since and can be interpreted anyway you want (depending how you think really). Sorta.

Thanks for the idea. I'll be implimenting regexp based kick filtering in my script.
Maybe even repeated offenses equallying a ban. Depends on how soon swine flu goes away.

I disagree with you, therefore you are wrong.

Oh good lord no. The last thing we need is a god damn word filter. I don't give a **** if my strong language hurts someone's ****ing feelings. They need to get the **** over it, seeing as words have no meaning. It's the interbutts. If you get offended, you lost.

Thats a selfish point of view. This could be a client side option so you can choose to have the filter on or off from the game menu.

I think it's fair enough if people want to make their server a little more kidsafe.
I know a 9yo who plays Minecraft after I told his big brother about it, and he's not informed about the internet in general; I wouldn't want to be accountable for him repeating bad language at his dinner table.
That's such an ignorant point of view, though. Kids hear their first swear words at school long before they'd run into them on the internet. This is why I dislike all kinds of word filters. (Well, sometimes filtering some of the racist **** is needed.) But really, if they don't hear it here, they're going to end up hearing it somewhere else anyways. There's no way to retain the innocence in a child forever. Stop pretending that it's possible and face the facts. Yeah, client side would be a good idea, but really, think about how hard it would be to implement. You'd have to block the swear words, and all of the different misspellings people would try to get past the filter. You would end up with a filter similar to Runescape's (It's ****ing horrible) blocking words that it shouldn't.

Yes they will hear it elsewhere, that doesn't mean people shouldn't have the choice to disable it. Sometime in life we're going to come across rape, should rape be okay? No.
Have filtering enabled client-side, by default. Disabling should trigger a warning message saying something like "Disabling the profanity filter will make you vulnerable to personal insults and things that aren't ment for kids' ears. Continue?"

No. Kids learn swear words in the playground, but its always the douchy kids who stink and come from council houses who are the origin. You know not to behave like them.
oh shut up, what a ridiculous stereotype. There are many respectable people that come from council houses, there are many awful people who come from wealthy families. Living in a council has absolutely nothing to do with this and it's pathetic that you'd even mention it, I bet you're a joy to be around in real life.
While I think this is a great idea (for a serverside filter script) it doesn't stop people from spelling out "f*** babies" on my jail wall. I host a private server for my young siblings and their friends for this reason.
But I'd really enjoy seeing this option implemented in the future.
How about a word filter with only the correct spelling and the very common misspells, EXCEPT whoever sent it does not see it censored, while everyone else does? He won't know that it's censored, he won't try to misspell. Sure, it will be discovered sooner or later, but it'd a good temporary fix, isn't it?
I learned swearing from my parents, they taught me not to use it of course.
I did use it at school, amongst my friends. Not in excess however, I swear a lot more on the internet than I do in real life, that's for sure. Though, I often come out with "****" and "****" whenever I remember something I was meant to do but didn't.
I use swear words to grab people's attention when they're being stupid. I also use swears as a form of releasing anger every now and then, and they're never aimed at people when it's for that reason. The farthest back I can remember, the first swear I heard was at about age 6, but possibly even earlier than that. I knew to not use them, and that they weren't really cool. I then facepalm.jpg'd at all the kids at my school thinking swearing was the coolest thing evar for a few years. Now I just don't give a horse **** about swearing, as words are words, and if they offend you, then **** off and get over it. It's those that are offended by the pettiest things that **** me the hell off. Swearing is EVERYWHERE. There's no way to keep it away from children. Movies, internet, school, and hell, occasionally their own parents.

What he said. Client option.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Just in case I didn't get my point across:
