It doesn't even read it. BTW, I got the .dat file using WoM Client Wrapper if that helps any. It has a Dump Level feature.
Also, it's called "level_(bunch of numbers).dat".
I also have a .mine file from saving the level through the browser.
It's definitely called "server_level.dat"? Can you post a screenshot of the folder structure? Either the file is named incorrectly or you're using a corrupt file.
I have already downloaded minecraft-server.zip.
I want to set up a server, to be a private server. So I can save freely. But I don't know anything about setting it up.
I need guidance.
Close the server, edit server.properties.

Setting up
! No level file found. Generating a new level
Generating level
I put the .dat file in the same area I got the server in. And it creates a new server_level.dat file.
That's just weird.

This is what shows when running start server.bat, with no server_level.dat;
Then it generates a new server_level.dat.

I'll try it.
It works! :biggrin.gif: Thanks!
If it's a valid map file and it's called "server_level.dat" there will be no problem.
I've seen smaller as 7kb
