My Minecraft server is lagging during each save.
Specs:
Ubuntu Desktop 9.04 (planning on disabling desktop sometime, it's just easier to set up sometimes)
2.4 GHZ P4
1.5 GB RAM, Dual Channel'd
Some AGP Video card, I think it's a 6200.
I decided to try and put the server on flash media (read/write faster) that has helped I think, but I'm not sure. Java is -15 Nice (High Priority), and is using a lot of CPU. How can I check if the USB ports are USB 2.0?
Edit: I'm going to try less, faster, ram.
Nothing to do with my connection speed tbh. If I talk through console with "say" it doesn't come up untill the lag's over, a few seconds later. It has got much better when I lowered the map size. Right now it's 512x512x128, I'd really like to be able to run 512x512x256 though. I didn't know about ionice, trying it but it didn't give any response so I'm not sure if it's working...

@OP
I forgot if ionice can be negative. If it can, try that.
Quality of output = Skill * Effort
