2. Trying to connect to your own server but it won't work? Try using this url: http://www.minecraft.net/play.jsp?ip=127.0.0.1&port=25565. Note however that if you've altered the port settings in server.properties, you'll have to replace 25565 with the port in your server.properties file.
that doesnt fit in the box that notch provides in minecraft
Hey, i am trying to make a small server that is only for me and my friend. I have a Mac. We both have bought the game and i downloaded the server software. I was able to get to the point where it says something like "Preparing spawning area__%. After that i typed in the command "stop" and then "nano server.properties" and i edited the properties like setting the IP address to my IP then I typed "public=true". got out of that and then when i tried to restart my server by typing in the java... nogui command listed on minecraft.net I keep getting the message:
2010-12-01 23:00:51 [INFO] Starting minecraft server version 0.2.7
2010-12-01 23:00:51 [INFO] Loading properties
2010-12-01 23:00:51 [INFO] Starting Minecraft server on 178.191.190.197:25565
2010-12-01 23:00:51 [WARNING] **** FAILED TO BIND TO PORT!
2010-12-01 23:00:51 [WARNING] The exception was: java.net.BindException: Can't assign requested address
2010-12-01 23:00:51 [WARNING] Perhaps a server is already running on that port?
And i cant access it on Minecraft. Please Help.
If you have an IP defined in your server.properties, erase it. See if that works.
Why would I help Mac users if I don't have a Mac? I would have no idea where to start. I'm sure that applies to most of the others that help people.
Some people help Linux users though.
Just to be clear: Mac OS X is a BSD OS with a proprietary Apple window manager loaded. Therefore, MOST of the instructions are the same as for Linux, especially when it comes to PATH variables and such.
Firewall settings are located in the System Preferences under the "Security" pane, "Firewall" tab. Usually OS X will ask if you want the program to allow incoming connections when it first attempts to listen.
You can get to the Mac command line by going to Applications->Utilities->Terminal. If you're going to be running a server, you'll need this a lot so pin it to your dock. The terminal opens a shell in your username running either bash or csh. If you prefer one over the other, you can launch it instead (they are usually both installed). I believe Terminal's Preferences dialog allows you to set a preference as well, either bash, csh, login, etc.
If you're running Little Snitch, be sure to allow Minecraft when it asks you too as well. BOTH FIREWALLS WILL BLOCK LOCALHOST CONNECTIONS AS WELL AS EXTERNAL CONNECTIONS.
PM me (please no emails) with questions about setting up on OS X, I'll do my best to help. If I get a lot of requests I may not be able to get to them in time. Perhaps some of the other Mac people would like to start a dedicated Mac thread (and Linux people would also like to do the same?) It'd be good to have them separate to make searching easier, methinks...
Question. Everything seems to be connecting just fine... The server says it's fine and the game lets me load my map... but when it loads there is no terrain. I can see some creepers off in the distance and then I fall forever. Why is this happening and how can I fix it?
I've tried to login onto my server on my computer. I get to it telling me it's logging in, but in the server client it tells me "You need to log in!" and it crashes minecraft with the error:

Ok, someone was able to log into the server apparently, though was "lost connection suddenly. <java.io.IOException: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host>". Not sure if that's just normal talk or what, but thought I'd add it in there anyway.

I get this exact same issue, and it's incredibly frustrating as it only happens on some computers - so I can't host a Minecraft server on my server but I can on my desktop! No 24/7 uptime for my server. :/
1. When I start my server and trying to connect into it, it just say "Outdated Client". Why cant I connect in?
2. How do I make commands that players can buy items with there money? And some mini-questions after that..
3. How do I make the command /warp (warp name)?
4. How do I make the /sethome command?
5. How do I make other players that plays my server to mod, vip, trusted or something like that?
6. How do I make that glass thing that make me fly? I saw some guy in an server that was standing on an glass floor and he kinda flyed. lol
PS: Im using a macbook I dont know if that is different from a pc like DELL or something..
Please answer me on those questions really soon cause I dont really got much time, I got work to do. :smile.gif:
1. Outdated client usually means your SERVER is actually outdated, The error is generic when there is a version mismatch in my experience. update your server.
2. Huh?
3. You dont have to make a command at all, the command exists as '/tp <playername> <target playername>'
4. Again huh?
5. As far as i know, someone correct me if im wrong, all you can do is be an op, or a non op. Unless there is a mod for this somewhere... 'adminlevels' dont exist in minecraft yet.
Can someone help me please? No one has been able to fix my problem yet and I am getting frustrated and sad with this... I'm sorry for posting this here but I would rather post a link than copy and paste and spam this topic with a large post... I guess this is kind of spamming too but I just need help so badly :'(
A couple minutes after connecting to my server I get kicked off and I lose my internet connection until I restart my computer. I get this error:
"Internal Exception:java.net.Socket Exception:connection reset"
(I assume there is more but it gets cut off at the edge of the screen)
I've had someone else to connected to the server while I wasn't there, and they seemed to be fine. After I connected, a few minutes later, it happened again. I've look all over the forum and have seen others getting this error, but no solution. I've done web searches on the error itself with no luck. I've updated all drivers, reinstalled java, minecraft, and server software, and it still happens. What else can I do to get my server to work right?

I cannot for the life of me, open Port 25565. And I've pretty much done everything I could find on the internet. Which is what's stopping me from working my minecraft beta server.

When I used one of those things that tells you if the port is open, it only told me it was open if the server was running. Not sure it's supposed to do that or not.

I'm getting
Conneting 127.0.0.1 you need to log in!
Kicking 127.0.0.1
I think it has something to do with my port forwarding.
My router is a Actiontec Mi424wr. Otherwise the server properties to do with connecting are unedited.
