I've created a server a few days ago and it lets me log in but not my brother, my cousin, and other friends. I've shut both my firewalls off and tryed it with that but it still wouldn't work. If someone can please help me ill be greatful. Thanks :smile.gif:.
Hey, i am trying to make a small server that is only for me and my friend. I have a Mac. We both have bought the game and i downloaded the server software. I was able to get to the point where it says something like "Preparing spawning area__%. After that i typed in the command "stop" and then "nano server.properties" and i edited the properties like setting the IP address to my IP then I typed "public=true". got out of that and then when i tried to restart my server by typing in the java... nogui command listed on minecraft.net I keep getting the message:
2010-12-01 23:00:51 [INFO] Starting minecraft server version 0.2.7
2010-12-01 23:00:51 [INFO] Loading properties

2010-12-01 23:00:51 [WARNING] The exception was: java.net.BindException: Can't assign requested address
2010-12-01 23:00:51 [WARNING] Perhaps a server is already running on that port?
And i cant access it on Minecraft. Please Help.
If you have an IP defined in your server.properties, erase it. See if that works.

Have you tried using more RAM? If you have more available, edit the Xmx1024M to like 2048 or something.
Everything should hypothetically be working fine; I've got the latest version of java, I've preemptively forwarded the ports, but when I start up the server (Windows 7), it starts trying to generate the properties file but keeps failing and ends up spamming the log window. I looked around a bit and didn't find anything, but it is my first time on these forums. Anyone know a solution?
Edit: Nevermind, apparently it didn't like me running it off my Desktop directory for some reason.
A few months ago I created a server using the software on Minecraft.net. I forwarded my ports turned off my firewall and me and my friends enjoyed the server until one day it would not let any of us log on, it just says the connection timed out. I just recently decided to try to solve this problem but I cannot figure it out...any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
For my mclawl server it says this everytime you say something on it:_
The type initializer for 'MCLawl.IRCBot' threw an exception.
When i go to the server and click on errors it says this:

Source: MCLawl_
Message: The type initializer for 'MCLawl.IRCBot' threw an exception.

I hope one of you can help its getting pretty annoying thanks! :smile.gif:
I had my server set up for just myself and a friend. It took me some time and some online videos as I am far from being computer savvy. The server worked for a couple days then suddenly it won't let me on and it only says I was "Disconnected by the server...Outdated Server" I looked around online and I cannot find anything that fixes this problem for me. I was curious if this was due to the change over from alpha to beta since it's the alpha server software or would that even make a difference? I'm really confused so if anyone can explain it to me in small words so I can understand it would be greatly appreciated. haha
hey all, as of beta 1.1.02 i keep getting a "Disconnecting cpryseng [/192.168.1.24]: Took too long to log in" error from the private server im running on my LAN, java also throws a "UnknownHostException: http://www.minecraft.net" has anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it?

Hi crpyseng,
I am experiencing the same error message with v1.1_02 running on my LAN. What OS are you runinng it on?
I am now attempting to run the server on an old PC I'm using as a Ubuntu 10.04 Server (2.6 GHz, 2 GB RAM is not too old for only 2-4 players). I have only just set it up, prior to which I was running both server and client from my laptop (running Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop via Wubi install on Windows Vista [Wubi basically allows installing/running Ubuntu without partitioning your Hard drive, very nice]).
It was a pain running both from laptop - if my client crashed it would crash the server (hence the want to move it to a dedicated server). I started setting it up when Beta 1.0.0 didn't work, and it is a completely clean install with the world folder and other files copied across from my laptop to the server.
Probably like yours, the server starts up Minecraft fine, not giving a hint of any problems, until someone tries to connect. Both server and client get a message about "Took too long to log in" with a whole bunch of Java exceptions
Anyways when it didn't work I tried updating the server JAR file on my laptop, and it works fine! No errors joining. As an additional test. I setup a Ubuntu 10.04 Server virtual machine on my work laptop and testing running and connecting to the server. Again, it worked fine! :-/ So I am now left scratching my noodle wondering why it works on 2 Ubuntu 10.04 installs, but not on the one I want it to work on (talk about Murphy's Law! lol)
More troubleshooting required obviously. I'll see if I can think of anything to try and post my anything I discover here.

is this a bad router to use to create a server?

What does that mean?
EDIT: And no one is on during that.
What the hell? ive tried "java -Xmx1024M -Xms2048M -jar minecraft_server.jar" still doesnt work.
You have the Xmx and Xms mixed up. Switch the numbers and it should be better.

Are you using your local IP? Did you open up the correct ports on your router?
Download the new server here, and replace your current server .exe. The current version is a little unstable, though.
My buddy and I are having a similar problem.
if you do please send me a msg and ill respond asap with team viwer details
