I deleted my server in an attempt to start a new one. I went and found all files related to the server and deleted them. I downloaded a new server and when I try to run it it goes on forever trying to access the old files. Can I start a new sever, or have I just screwed myself?
okay I have tryed everything i can think of, I am trying to make a server for mac. I can get the server to work and I can get on fine and everything else but my friends can still not connect. I have done all of the port forwarding but still not working for them any advice?

Make sure they have your OUTSIDE IP address with :25565 at the end. Similar to __ 72.222.72.72:25565 __

Anybody know if it is possible to set up a server just by plugging two computers together without using an internet connection?
Me and my brother would really want to set up a server for both of us to play together and getting internet in both of our computerx is something not possible in the place we live in.
Yes you can. If your running Windows it's called an "Ad-Hoc" computer-computer connection. If a Mac then it will detect it automatically. Make sure the server is on the faster computer.
You actually don't need the internet just a Router will work also.
Does your house now have ANYONE on the internet? If so then if you have a Router already, then all you need is the IP address of the computer who's hosting the server. If your router use's 192.168.1.1 and your computer is 192.168.1.2 then all your brother needs is to do is to type that number,192.168.1.2, in the multiplayer window in Minecraft and your good to go. You just hook the ethernet cables to the router from both computers and the router will do the rest.
P.S... or wireless if it's a wireless router also....
I have port forwarded correctly and I still get this :(.
i have tried about 20 times. No luck. And i did it correctly.

I fixed my server and it is now working for other people. I had done everything, made a static ip, port-forwaded and it still wouldn't work. The problem i found was windows firewall. It had been causing the port forwarding to not work im pretty sure. So just try disabling it and using this http://www.canyouseeme.org/ to test if it is working. I think you have to have your server running for the port checker to work. Hopefully this can work for someone.
hellow every onee plz can you try out my server. i just need you lovly people to see if you can connect to my "hamachi" server(sorry about the spelling)

I really hate to say it this way, but then perhaps hosting a server isn't for you? Maybe you could try buying one online.
Remove the IP from the server.properties file.
