"serv er must be down"
how could i fix this without turning off my firewall?
Well, you can either
A. Turn it off which usually fixes it and be scared because most firewalls usually block the wrong stuff
B. Look in your firewall and see if you can either A. Add the batch to an exception B. Add the port to an exception.
C. Pull up another firewall that is better and more customizable.
Edit: If you have a router, this will turn more complicated.
I'd like to cover how to do this, but atm I'm too tired, and the guide would need a few images to be 100% accurate. I might edit this in later, option A will always work, so it's alright. If anyone feels like writing it, just make a reply with it and I'll edit it in.
Let me try:
:cool.gif: Adding the path variable manually
Right click Computer and select Properties
On the form select "Advanced system settings" or similar
I have the problem where when people try to connect it says the server must be down. I have my firewall turned off, however I do have a router. What do I do?
Hey guys,
I also am attempting to create a server and have several questions.
First off: It generated a randomized map for me and saved it to use every time I start the server, but what if I don't want to use that one? Say I have a custom map I want to use instead, how would I replace the maps?
The error says that I lost connection because Minecraft.net wasn't able to verify my name. I've read and seen how turning off the verification of names fixes this, and I tried it. It worked, but I don't want to leave myself vulnerable to people who would exploit this, nor do I want to make this a private server that only a few people can enjoy. I've portforwarded correctly, and I've added exceptions to my firewall. I also disabled skype and my anti-virus. I still receive the name verification error. Then, I changed my ports from 25565 to 25676 on both the properties file and my portforward list for my router, to no avail.
Third: When my friends attempt to join my server it says that they lost connection and that the server is probably down, I have no idea why.
Fourth: How exactly do I use the players and admins configuration files, do I separate the names by comma, or with the next line? I couldn't find any specific notation.
Help... Im getting the cannot connect error and I'm trying the Port forwarding solution, but the port forward site doesnt have my router model. >.>;
It has the brand- Actiontec, but not the number, M1424...
Help please? I'd appreciate it.
I suggest comparing it to a similar model and seeing if the menus are somewhat similar as-well and go from there.

From my experience, Actiontec's are cable/dsl modems. Not actual routers. Do you have more than 1 computer?
So heres a crazy thing. I had a minecraft server that worked fine, but I deleted all the files and started again due to having a few too many addons I wasn't using. I'm running minecraft with the same port. It used to let people play, now it doesn't ('It's probably down!' error), and it's telling me on the port checker site that the port is closed, even though I've gone into my router settings and its set to always allow/open.
Can anyone shed any light on this?

Cannot get windows firewall to allow access, works fine if I turn off the firewall but when active nothing no one can connect. I've been up and down the settings and can't figure out what I need to do, just not used to Windows 7 it's a lot different.
I'm having trouble forwarding the port 25565. I've used the portforward website, and I've entered my ip address, the port 25565 and the protocol as TCP. I downloaded some port-checker program from portforward.com and it says that my port is still not open. Is there anything obvious I'm missing?
ive changed the verify name thing to false and it still does it
any helpfull suggestions?

is there a way to fix this without firefox coz it takes ages to dwnload on my comp
Change the port in the server.config and reload it and re-try. If not then please try this link: http://www.minecraft.net/play.jsp?ip=12 ... port=25565
(Change the port if it's different.)

And thats it.
