so I live at a school where there is a somewhat srtict websense block on a lot of things, but i decided to see if i could get onto the server i set up at my house from school
the server works fine internally and I've been able to make it work externally before and it ran smooth.
so i thought my school internet watch might be whats keeping me from getting onto my smp server, but what makes me think its some other issue is that the error message i get is 'connection refused' which makes me think that its a problem on the servers end
any help is appreciated

I'm confused: when i try running my server w/ my ip entered so my friends can connect from outside my network, it says failed to connect. when i run my server and my ip is entered, it says *******FAILED TO BIND PORT: (IP)>25565. does that have something to do with it?
Ok so I tried running a server on windows vista using the .exe and after some fiddling it worked fine. But, I wanted modified /give so i got the .jar, forwarded the ports and everything, but whenever my friend tries to connect it tells him
failed to connect to the server
connection timed out:connect
Any idea why this is happening? Is it something to do with the ports maybe?
PLEASE help me with this, i love playing on my own server!

Hey my friend and I are having issues with our server, we got it all set up and everything, we loaded up survival Island and everything but for some reason it wont let us collect anything on one half of the island, unfortunately it is the part with the tree, so we are screwed, so we jumped accross the ocean and we had built a huge base and everything. is there something we can do to help this, also after playing for about 3 hours all of the sudden I got disconnected from the server and couldn't reconnect it kept saying failed to connect, or something like that. It tried to connect for a few mins but never did. Any thoughts on this? Thank you

So I'm trying to create my server, I have done everything off of http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Tutorials/Setting_up_a_server#Configuring_the_Minecraft_Server but when i try to test out the localhost on multiplayer, it doesn't work.
what am I doing wrong? Or should i just use a custom server?
my minecraft can connect to other servers, but not mine
oh, i'm also using windows 7 (64-bit)
Umm i have it set up completely, Made myself an admin and everything, but when i try to connect it always shows:
Failed to connect to server: Server timed out
im having a problem where its not even reconizing any of the commands i put in for commands
the message i get from cmd.exe is "(java or the long link to it via its address) is not reconized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
Also, sometimes Windows Firewall will be blocking Java from going through it. To fix this, go to the Start Button and type: "Allow a program through Windows Firewall." It should come up, click it. Then, scroll down to where it says Java(TM) Platform SE Binary, then click the little box next to the "J" in Java and click the box that says "Public." This should keep Firewall from blocking people from joining. If this still doesnt work, then you have to type into the search box: "Windows Firewall." Click the one titled: "Windows Firewall" not "Windows Firewall with Advanced Security." Then, click Advanced Settings to the left of the box. Inside, you will need to make a new rule for incoming and outgoing connections, allowing the port to be accessed. The port you will need to unblock is usually 25565 but you may have changed it in the server.properties file. I can't remember exactly, but if you need further clarification, I will give it. Hope this helped.
I made my server work on windows XP with these steps :
First open a port for Minecraft :
- Open Network properties
- Right-click on my network card, click on properties
- click on the advanced tab
- click on settings for Windows Firewall
- click on the advanced tab
- highlight the network card you are using
- click on settings
- click on Add
- Enter Minecarft in the name field
- Enter your IP address (this must be the external address, as provided by your ISP)
- Enter the port number 25565 for internal and external
- select TCP
- validate everything
Next edit your server.properties file :
- set the server-IP value to your internal IP address (to find it : open a dos box, type IPCONFIG)
- set the server-port value to 25565 (it should already set if you kept the default values)
Restart your machine
Hope this helps, have fun!
Great job man, the same thing I said in my most recent post. It works!
its now not pulling the full address when i use that its saying something like " 'C:/program' is not reconized as an internal or external command etc. etc.
edit: using windows 7 if that chages anything... cant find the network properties eather cause they moved and renamed stuff.. ._.
edit:edit: yay problem resolved i had to edit my batch file to say this and only this

I set up a server on my computer, and I can connect to it using "localhost" or the IP address.
However, my friend keeps getting a message saying something like "connection timed out" or other errors when she tries to log in from her computer.
I have a LINKSYS router and I have forwarded my port. The only setting I changed on the server properties is I added the IP address. I also shut down every firewall I could find. Is it something on my friends computer? Maybe I messed up the port forward, I dont know.
