I am trying to portforward a Minecraft server using Bukkit 1.6.4 I'm 99 percent positive I portforwarded it correctly and even double checked. I can get on perfectly fine, but when I give the IP to my friend, he can't connect. Did I do something wrong? I used the IP4v address I got from my cmd process.

Yeah, you did something wrong. You need to give them your External IP address. The one you got from your command prompt is your internal IP.

Go to something like whatsmyip.org

Having a hard time figuring out a couple things. All the examples i see show all the ip's in ipv4 form but all of mine are in ipv6 or are really weird like 10.0.0.1 or 10.255.255.255 which dont really seem real. Ive tried typing the 10.0.0 one and it came up with an xfinity page asking for my password and username. I tried using my regular user and pass that i use for xfinity.com but it doesnt work. im not really sure what password im supposed to use. I tried Routerpassword.com but I cant find xfinity in any of their choices. This might have been confusing but any help would be good

I know port forwarding could be a huge pain in the ass.

Those are valid IPv4 addresses, but not the ones you are looking for.

To log into your router, open up a command prompt and type in "ipconfig" and press enter. Look for your "Default Gateway". This is the IP address you want. 99% of the time it is something like 192.168.1.254 or 192.168.0.1, or less commonly 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.254

Put this address into your browser. From there, its up to you.

I would like to use Port Triggering instead of Port Forwarding so that I don't have a port that is always open. I have an Asus RT-N66 router. I know that Port Forwarding works, but is it possible to use Port Triggering instead? I can't find the settings for it.

Guys i have this tiny problem i dont understand. 4 days ago, i hosted a 1.7.9 server for my friends and i to play on. All went well until we decided to make a 1.7.4 server. So i simply deleted my old port forwarding and folder, and put the 1.7.4 version. For some reason none of my friends can join when i give them the gateway, and only i can join when i type 'localhost'. Also, when i change some settings (like mobs spawning for example) it doesnt change. Does anyone have a solution to any of these? any help would be appreciated.

Okay, so I just moved and had previously had all my port forwarding stuff set up on a Charter router. I now have U-Verse but the modem and router is on the other side of the house. In order for the connection to make it to my computer, we ran a wired across the house into something called a "4 Port 10/100 Router Switch" which then connects to my PC. Having this in mind, I literally have no idea what to do. Please help!

First thing you need to do is turn off DHCP on the second router. This will screw with the DHCP on your U-Verse router. Then on your PC, open a command prompt and type in "ipconfig /renew" to get a new IP just in case your second router assigned you one instead of your U-Verse router.

Second thing you will need to do is log in to your U-Verse router (Usually 192.168.1.254) and set up new port forwards.

Can someone please help me? I have a Motorola Surfboard SBG 6580 and for two days I have been Googling errors and help with no success whatsoever. Here's what I have so far:

• I have a static IP set up exactly like PortForward.com said and it's set up to 192.168.0.15
• My server folder has all of it's contents set up, including the properties file. (Craftbukkit server, world, etc)
• I port forwarded it correctly. (As far as I know)
What I entered:

The static IP you setup is 192.168.0.15, but you list the internal port as 192.168.2.15.  Also, you have server-port=14320.  The server-port for Minecraft is 25565.  You also have no entry under server-ip=.  That should be the internal IP of the computer running the server.  It is not consistent.  Which IP is the real static IP inside of your LAN, 192.168.0.15, or 192.168.2.15?  Why is the Minecraft Server report set to the wrong port, and which LAN IP is the server running on?

 

My ISP provides a dynamic WAN IP.  I have my router/gateway IP set as 192.168.1.1, and using the DHCP settings in my router I set the computer running the server to a static LAN IP of 192.168.1.4.  I can quote my server properties file below.

Well I fixed all of he errors and I still am having problems. I can't connect and neither can my friends.

This might be silly but do you use McAfee?
If you do you will have to go into internet connections and programs .This is in the fire wall section and click add. Then you will want to click browse and search for your server.exe .Click it and save and you will be good to go .I had this problem and this is how I fixed it.I hope this helps and may your sword stay sharp .

I DO NOT WANT TO WASTE THIS INFORMATION SINCE IT TOOK VERY LONG TO WRITE:
Basically I can connect now, but my friends can't. The IP they are supposed to use isn't working. In order for it to get me to connect, I had to get hamachi and then get rid of it and now it works.

Guys this is from a post today, but I got directed here. I have tried everything. (My friends can't connect either)

1. I am running a vanilla server. (Bukkit is not working for me right now since it is in development build
2. Well, I have port forwarded everything. Did it perfectly followed instructions and it definitely should be working. But when I start up the server, it just says pinging and then ends up saying "Can't connect to server." It says my port is open, but it still doesn't let me join!
3. I have tried to look online to fix the solution. Tried strategies like using hamachi for myself but letting my friends join without them having to use hamachi. It's not working.
4. I don't really get this question... I am using a PC Laptop? Belkin router.

Btw guys, I have tried localhost, localhost:25565 and all of that ­. So yep. This is going to be hard or not possible to solve.

@Albattal, looks like we could have the same problem with completely different config...

Operating system: Windows 8.1 Pro
Version of Java: 1.7.0_55
One machine or multiple computers: One server machine
Exact description of the problem: I have my UDP/TCP ports forwarding correctly according to the portforwarding.com (both TCP and UDP check) tool and http://canyouseeme.org/ says that I am not blocking port 25565.

Joining the server on a machine returns

java.net.connectException: Connection refused: no further information:

This returns almost instantly. I have followed OP's guide on adding inbound rules for UDP and TCP.This server runs perfectly when ran over local, but I get Can't connect to server. using the public IP.

Note: the last screenshot was taken with the server down, because it will not work when the port is being used.

Yup.
Well something that allowed me to join at least, I got hamachi, made a hamachi network, invited my friend and it let me join. I deleted the network and it still worked. But my friends can't connect. Complete ­.
