I'm also having server issues, i set up everything as i'm instructed, but when others try to connect to it, the server does not appear. any ideas?
the new minecraft server launcher unmodified im guessing is the problem here. here are some steps to solve the issue. go to minecraft.net and redownload the .ex version of the server save it somewhere where you can get to it and put it into a folder of its own. from there you need to create a batch file inside this same folder in this batch file youre gonna need to do
java -Xmx256M -Xms256M -jar minecraft_server.1.7.4.exe nogui -o true
PAUSE then youll see a command prompt open up and ittl start doing stuff give it a moment and you should see the server start up. if there are any errors that you can see in this log please post it here. unfortunatle i wasnt able to reproduce your issue but we might be able to see whats wrong. another solution to the issue is that 1.7.4 and 1.7.2 are the same thing and use the same authentication. if you must use the vanilla minecraft.net version there is the download link right here for it https://s3.amazonaws...7.2.execlick that and youll get 1.7.2 and try that version before starting the newer launcher. id still recommend making a batch file for it seeing as the vanilla gui doesnt do anything. there is also the option of going to bukkit or spigot and grabbing their launcher for 1.7.2 they are dev builds but they do kind of work. they are unsupported still but they work. they only offer the jar files but its simple enough to make a batch file for them in the same manner. hope this helps

I got a server a few days ago and it was working fine and then I just automatically disconnected and since then I have been having the same problem with my server and I thought "maybe I edited the ip and entered it in wrong. So I checked the ip of the server and it all seemed to be accurate but then I checked the ip the way I did on my computer to set up the server and it was different than it was when I first started using the server. So I entered the NEW ip address and I was able to connect to the server just fine. My belief is that maybe the ip has to reset after a day or two in order to continue working normally. So just check that every once and a while.
If you are using a PC, here's how to find the new IP address:
-press the start key and R on the keyboard something should pop up called "run"
-then type "cmd" and a black box with white words should pop up
-after where it says C:\Users\...(your username)...> type in: ipconfig
-the IP address should show up right above where it says "subnet mask"
-after you find the new IP, edit your notepad file for your server called "server" so that the NEW IP address is in the server-ip= section
-Finally open Minecraft and click multiplayer, select your server and click edit, then change the old IP address to your NEW IP address
That is all you need to do to fix this problem on a PC. I am sorry, but I do not know how to fix it if you are having problems with a MAC.
GET THE LATEST VERSION OF JAVA THIS LITERALLY HAPPENED TO ME 2 SECONDS AGO IT FIXED MY PROBLEM WHEN I CLICKED ON IT AND ALL IT LOADED WAS THE LAOG FILE AND DIDNT EVEN OPEN THE DISPLAY SCREEN
Well, everything is perfect when I download the exe file, but when I open the Minecraft server, nothing shows up on the tabs that say Log and Chat and the same thing with Players. Only some little words show up in Stats. Could anyone answer my problem? (I have a 2002 Windows PC it is not windows 7)
Maybe because my computer is too old it doesnt work?
I use the .jar version of the server so this help is for that. Make sure you have the latest version of java (www.java.com/verify). Next right click on the server.jar and click "Properties". Now where it says "Open with:" click "Change". Next, click "Browse" and navigate to where java is installed on your computer, usually C:\Program Files\Java or C:\Program Files (x86)\Java. Then open jre<version>\bin and select "javaw.jar". If it still doesn't work you will have allow javaw.exe through your firewall. To do this, go to your firewall and find "Java(TM) Platform SE binary". There should be a few of these and to find javaw.exe, click one and then click "Details". Check the "Private" box for javaw.exe. It should now work! If it doesn't, tell me what happens (or what doesn't happen) when you try to run it and I might me able to help.
Hey Guys, I've Figured it out i too had the same problem.
ok the reason why this is happing is because minecraft is started it up in the background preventing you from opining another java file.
1.Go to Task manager (control, alt, delete)
2.Go to processes if not already there look for Java(Tm) Platfrom SE Binary
3. Close it
4.Download server
5.Start server
6.Should have all of your folders if not please reply and i will try to help

hey but when i open server exe or jar it runs but nothing happens
i try all u solutions but nothing happens still
thats because its a GUI bug if youre getting nothing at all then youre doing it wrong.. you need to work from a command prompt and not the god awful window gui thing that minecraft comes with.

best thing to do is try to direct connect server:ip adress also make sure youve port forwarded properly. if you need help with port forwarding you can check the port forward thread http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1598228-guide-included-portforwarding-megathread-post-your-port-forwarding-questions-here/

Yeah, the GUI bugs make it a bit of a problem when trying to solve these things. The command prompt is a good place to start this fix!
