I'm having this issue now. However, it is only happening on one server. Sometimes it does log into it, but all i see is a blue void and i get disconected "end of stream".

So I started playing minecraft again and it's still happening to me, I've literally tried everything suggested, I even bought a new router. This is absolutely ridiculous considering it ONLY disconnects from minecraft server, I can run every other game fine. I am desperate for an answer on how to solve this.
I'm another person suffering with such a confusing error.
I have searched on and on, for weeks, about a solution.
Seen people return with null results to constant troubleshooting.
I wish this thread would receive more attention.
As everyone here with this problem, doing the best we can,
are being left hang to dry.
I hope this problem can be seen through.
As people are already leaving Minecraft just because of it.
Issue is TCP. Tested this over and over again and your being disconnected due to packet lost. Most times i see it caused by an overloaded chunk usually alot of redstone timers running or pistons, usually anything with lots of redstone running will overload a poorly fit server. You can do this yourself and test it... hook to filters up to chests and backlog them with dirt or whatever... apply a redstone timer these filters at .5 /t and give it about an hour or so and if the server is not great and you have anything else going on that chuck will overload till your able to log in and out until the timer is stopped. I have tested this with multiple different people if standing in a different chunk no issues teleport back to the bad chunk and your gone in about a minute.
Blame it on the dev.. the fact that he is using TCP for a game with soooo much overhead is going to cause this to happen alot.
It can however be you if your on a wireless connection make sure your firmware is updated. Its easy to test if it is you by refreshing a website the same time you being kicked in minecraft. Stand next to a redstone engine and wait till it stops moving... alt tab out and spam f5. Basically since http uses tcp your check to make sure the stack isnt restarting itself. You can also change your Buffer threshold to 512 if it is not already (google it). Also it can be your ISP filtering the packets out... a minecraft chunk data stream looks similar to a P2P stream.
In the end its the fact that using TCP in such a now extremely complex game produces far to much overhead.
I am having the same problem, it all started when I tried to instal Optifine but even after wiping that out it still occurs. Other people I play with use Optifine and it works just fine
OK, so I've been having this issue every since my server updated to 1.5, and actually it didn't start right away. So As usual I google search the error message to find a fix....and see that I'm by far not the only one having this problem. And see that it's been going on since 1.3! No one has found a legit fix for this yet? I've tried I don't know how many suggestions so far, nothing has worked....in fact it almost seems worse now.
Quick Question though, How many people out there have been having these issues while bukkit was not in a stable DEV yet? And After the stable version was released, did the problem go away? This was a suggestion from the Head admin on my server.
Him and I both are having this same issue. While many other players are not....
I am about to try one more thing because I seen a post mentioning that it was related to a possible conflict in different versions of Java. 32bit Vs 64 bit. I usually use 64 bit because it seems faster with Minecraft. But could be wrong.
Anyways, I hope that someone finds an answer soon, for for everyone's sake.
I don't know if this will help, I've been searching and searching for answers....finally found something that might help explain it. My servers host is based in France, testing my ISP's speed I averaged 24mbps so I couldn't figure out why I was losing connection. Finally found a ping tester. http://pingtest.net I tested connections in the US and I have a grade A line quality, but when testing the ping between my ISP and over seas servers I have grade C line quality. So I'm thinking that may be what's causing the issue.
Not 100% though.

I have a server and it only does this when I'm away from home and try to get on. If I am home and connect, it never happens. If I am on another network, it does either the recv failed or end of stream. It's SO annoying. This started a few days ago for me.

I was just wondering something, what antivirus is everyone using?
I'm using Avast!, and sometimes it blocks connections for nothing. What i decide to do then is prevent it from doing anything on the game, like adding an exception. But i didn't try with Minecraft yet

I'm home now and the issue is gone. Must be lag related? The connection where I was was horrible. I have some questions.
What is your ISP?
What is your router if on a WiFi connection?
Do you have antivirus? What is it?
Are you behind a firewall? Software or hardware? Both? If software what is it?
