i've seen countless tutorials ad can't seem to get other people to get on the server.
maybe it's becaue i am using the wrong IP adress?
what IP adress do i use and where do i find it??
i also can't connect to my own server anymore D:
I would suggest you create a new thread to ask your question. This one is over 2 years old and your request for help is on page 3 and will not get the attention you need.
I have the same problem. The only workaround is to have you and your friends install Hamachi. In Hamachi, create a new network. Give it a decent name and password and tell your friends so they can add it to their own Hamachi connections. Then at the top of the window (next to the power button): right click>"copy ipv4 address". This is the ip you use in the Minecraft Client to login to your Minecraft server. It is also the ip your friends need to use.
im having the same problem my ipv4 starts with 192.168 and my gateway is starts with 192.168 my regular ip starts with 76

The IP's you listed seem normal, not sure where your problem is. If you require additional assistance I suggest you create your own thread rather than resurrect one that is 3+ years old.
Did you select minecraft as the application that uses that port?
I have a D-Link router from I believe to be 2005 and in it, it requires the appropriate application name to be chosen to use that port.
I would love to start my own minecraft server but unfortunately minecraft is not an application name in my router. Il try and sort things out.
Oh! and don't forget to use your public IP address as the (192.168) address is just an ip4 address that is never used for other people. It will usually work for your server but not for other peoples computers that are trying to connect to your server. Your public IP address should start with a 50. Or simply go to google and search (IP). Your public IP address should be clearly shone on the page that it takes you to.
So once you port forwarded. How do you know if your server works? Simply take your PUBLIC IP address and click on direct connect on "Minecraft Server" and insert your public IP address into the bar. If your server works, it should take you to your world. If you didn't port forward correctly or not at all, then your screen should be stuck on "Connecting To Server" and if you leave if for a while soon say that it cannot connect as there was no more information for the computer to get from the router. If you need to know more about Port Forwarding and how it works, take this link right here!

That is not necessary. Those are just preset listings to aid in the forwarding process. If your router requires it, you have a bad router. You should at least be able to create your own like with AT&T routers.

Your public/external IP is used for external communication. If your IP starts with 192.168.x.x, then that is your internal, or private IP. Only people within your home network would be able to successfully log in using that IP address.

Cast aside your festive doylaks: dragon stuff is about to happen.
