Ok, so this was what made my server not work my computer changed its IP address and switched from the external to internal. That was the problem. Now I need to know how to change it to my external IP
I might not be understanding but it sounds to me like you have your external ip and you have forwarded port 25565 to your computers internal ip. Then later on your computer got a new internal ip and your server is no longer working. If this the case what would be the best thing to do is set a static ip on the server's computer. When a computer connects to a network most often the router will assign an ip address for that computer. Now if you have mutliple computers connecting and disconnecting to and from this network sometimes the router will assign an ip address to a computer that was in use by another computer. In other words it's possible for the computer with the server on it to assign a new ip and this will stop the server from working because the router doesn't update the portforwarding to the new ip.
The long and short of it is if your computer has a new internal ip address the portforwarding will be wrong. You need to set up the server computer to have a static ip outside of the range the router will assign and then forward the port to that static ip. Then you won't need to worry about the router ever assigning that ip to another computer.
Ahh this crap again.
Static =/= Dynamic IP.
I believe your IP becomes your gateway in the server info. Or its your ipv4 address. Been awhile since I did those.

You go there, setup a free account. Activate it, And log in.
"Then click "manage hosts" in the left panel if it hasn't already taken you there.
Click the orange "add a host" button on the right side, and it'll take you through the setup process.
On the lefthand side, select "download client". There's one for every major OS (Windows, Linux, and *cringe* Mac)
Install it, log into it, and set it up to auto-start on your server's startup. The program is very lightweight, so you don't have to worry about resource hogging. It's basically a slightly more advanced "ping" command that communicates with the no-ip servers.
This is a serious problem.
I know how to run a server. I've been running servers since Beta 1.5.
Since Minecraft 1.3 now, I have been unable to get anyone into a server. Tried multiple locations. Different houses. All ports forwarded, I use no mods. No server enhancers. Straight vanilla on straight UNIX terminal. This is ridiculous. I don't even have the PORT BINDING error. It just doesn't work. MOJANG needs a customer support line.

I get the same problem too ever since it updated past 1.0.0. Although it seems somehow rarely whenever i fully restart my pc and then trying to run the server, sometimes it works. But whenever the server restarts, i get problems again. All 25565 ports are up and open to my internal ip....really annoying

Something other than "I get problems again" would be helpful.
Because all someone can tell from that is;
A) You didn't wait long enough for the server to set up and run from a cold/new start. Especially if you have a low-end PC.
Something else is running in the background prior to the server.
I believe your guys problem is your firewall on your computer isn't allowing the port. Maybe, I have no idea.
>Maybe, I have no idea.
>I have no idea.
>no idea.
Good advice is good when you don't know what you're saying.
Appreciate the help, but you cant help someone when you don't actually know their problem.

first thing, how do I stop my IP from changing? next thing, how do I change my computers IP address to my external IP? It just became 0.0.0.0 and apparently it says that it's using the static address. If you can tell me those things, then I can probably fix it from there. Thank you to everyone who has gave a solution for my problem.
It changed back to 10.0.0.31 again. And I am using no-ip so that stops me from having to tell everyone my new ip if it changes. But no one is being able to connect. It says it's running on port 25565, but my port testers say that they can't ping my router and can't reach my port.
Hey, I might just be able to help you out. I had the same problem untill I found this video: . Your firewall maybe blocking the server, thats the problem I had.
THE SERVER IS FIXED I don't know how, one day I just opened it up, used the port checker and the port was OPEN!!!! Thank you to everyone who has posted a solution in this, you are all very nice people to have to stop by and help me. Thank you all!

I hope this helps.
EDIT:how do I change the IP on my computer to my static one? I'm sorry if I'm sounding like a noob. But if I can do that then it will probably work.

Oh btw, this is free to use, and you can have up to 5 no-ip addresses!
Also, you can type said no-ip addresses into the minecraft multiplayer server IP section."
