You've probably been raging over, how to I set up a LAN server? What is LAN?
Well, you're buddy Star is here to help:
WHAT IS LAN?
LAN,or Local Area Network,is well, not very simple to explain.Imagine this:You're network, which is called:Example, has computers connected to it!It's a group of computers connected to the same network!
No,you're friend next to you is not going to be able to play with you,he must be connected to you're network
HOW MINECRAFT DOES IT
Minecraft host a server on the LAN network. So,Minecraft is using you're grandpa's LAN network to host the server.Other Minecraft "clients" can detect the server.Which is the problem for most of us.It does'nt pick it up!
HOW TO "REALLY" CONNECT
You probably seen some simple tutorial videos on Youtube saying "JUST PRESS LAN  "
Guess what, there's one step more, one SIMPLE SO VERY SIMPLE STEP LEFT!
When it says: Local Server Hosted on (IP).........The other person which want's to connect must put the IP in the direct connect.Putting it in the Save Server will be useless, becuase every time you make another LAN world,it's always a different port.Ex: 198.x.x.xxx:(always changes)
So that's IT!Just simply put the IP you get when it launches the server into you're friends Minecraft direct connect slot!NOTE:HE MUST BE ON THE SAME NETWORK!
LAN servers are not possible with a standard launcher. If you do use a standard launcher the server will name both players "player" and they will not be able to connect at the same time. You need a launcher that can change your IGN for the local server.

When my friend joined, his username was MisterCubano and mine was StarburstDude.Incorrect info right there.
But that's not a LAN server, that's an online server. A lan server would be offline and would require a modified launcher to be able to change a player's name.
What you're doing is setting up an internet server, not connecting to localhost.
But that's not a LAN server, that's an online server.
The server is offline, but the player does log in to Minecraft (which is an online action separate to the server) prior to clicking the Multiplayer button. What's not to get about that? ¬_¬
and bye the way, this didn't help me at all. I already ty that, and it still odnt work.
(This could be explained by the fact that one of the computers is a mac...)

Here's the problem I used to have, with my brother. I would host a server, on LAN, and then in his multiplayer list it wouldn't show up. I did a TON of googling for a bit. Eventually I found my solution. It's pretty simple, really. Disable the firewall on both computers. Then, to prevent the server from crashing when more players join, you need to do 2 more things. After the world has loaded up for the host, wait 10 seconds before opening it to LAN. Then, wait 10 more seconds before anyone joins. Ta da! You're golden. Idk how these threads work. Sorry if I shouldn't have commented on an old post, but I thought I had relevant information.
Also, I should mention, I do not use a paid minecraft account, but LAN is offline anyways (well, sort of). Just in case that affects anything.

SNOW MAN HAPPEH!!!!
SNOW MAN HAPPEH!!!!
Probably playing offline?
SNOW MAN HAPPEH!!!!
Except no it's not, because it doesn't help.
The problems preventing our LAN attempts from working are a lot more complicated than you think.
