I've looked up how to find my game logs.
But don't know what they contain - is there any personal data in them?
I'm a PC dummy. I'd really appreciate some help.
Lag has improved since I removed Botania - all the other mods I have are pretty lightwieght.
But the confusing thing is when I used to play on a less powerful PC, I had many heavyweight mods like Thaumcraft etc. and had no lag issues.
The game log contains paths in your pc, so your pc name will be visible but that's all. There might be some issues with one or more mods that cause Minecraft to lag. And to identify the errors I'll need the log that contains information about everything from start to finish.

When I added a few mods.
I used to play years ago on a far less powerful PC and with far more mods, so don't know why this is happening.
I'd be grateful for advice as the game is unplayable at the moment.
CPU: Intel i7-7700K @ 420GHz 4.20GHz
RAM: 16 GB
OS: Windows 10
Gfx: NVidia GeForce GTX 1080
Browser: Chrome 64bit
Minecraft 1.12.2
Powered by Forge 14.23.0.2491
On Mojang My Account it says:
Game: Java Edition Minecraft for Windows 10
In-game.
Loads up as normal.
Everything was fine for the first couple of days, then today, suddenly it got laggy.
Now every time I load in, it's the same. Just digging up a bit of dirt takes ages, and I'm landscaping at the moment
Was so excited to be playing again - very disheartening.
Can I get your game log?

Sending you the game log.
P.S. This text file appeared on my PC desktop after I installed Minecraft.
Like I said I’m a PC dummy but isn’t X86 32 bit?

Sent you the log.
Really appreciate the help - game is horrible to play right now.
UPDATE: There was a Windows 10 Update today, and following those I usually check my drivers are up to date.
My gfx driver wasn't so I updated it.
Since then the lag is gone, other than the occasional stutter, but, if memory serves, that is part and parcel of the Minecraft experience.
I forgot rule no. 1: if you're having problems, first check your drivers
