Hey, i have looked. And looked. And looked. I cant find an answer to this. No one else has had this problem. I have a minimum of 16 chunks for my render distance in mcwin10. My own worlds lag when they never used to. It was fine before 1.0.0. But now i cant change it. Ive gone into the options.txt file, but it keeps reverting back to 16 chunks. Its set at 256, so i kept setting it to 128. Thing is i can INCREASE it. But i cant DECREASE it. I play MCwin10 all the time because my old Dell Studio 1537 can handle it. Plus i play with my friends. Heres the thing. When i join my girlfriend's worlds, i can amp up my video settings. Fancy graphics. Skys. Leaves. Bobbing. Higher RD. Even particle distance. But in my own worlds, i have everything off or at its bare minimum. Render distance is always at 16 chunks. I cant think of why this happens. My girlfriend has a ROG asus PC and she only has the 8 chunk minimum. She also has another asus PC, that has the same thing. 8 chunks minimum. Please help somebody. I fear what would happen when the game updates.

The "render distance" depends on the graphics capability of your computer. (I have a "gaming" laptop with a heavy-duty graphics card, so mine is 48 chunks). In other words, 16 is all your computer can handle. Trying to edit the file(s) won't help.
I hear ya. They improved the rendering with the last updates, changing the rendering distance numbers, and making it confusing. Don't fixate on the numbers. If you've moved the slider as far right as you can, as Scotty would say, "I'm giving her all she's got, Captain!".
Some say 16, some 22, whatever. it's set by the game when you start it after it checks your system. That's why you can't "force" the render distance to be further by editing the files. The only way you can get a higher distance is by upgrading your graphics... or getting another computer.

What he is saying is that his MINIMUM distance is 16, but he can raise it. It's a problem because the minimum distance is too damn high. MY toaster has a fkn upper limit of 46 chunks (almost 48) but my much faster laptop caps at 16 chunks.

Thats so odd. Before the minimum was 8 chunks. And my GF's Gaming laptop has always had the 8 chunk minimum.
