i have been trying to connect to another IOS device for 10 mins but it is not working. (both devices are quite new) it was working fine in 0.11.0 but when i updated it to 0.12.1 nothing shows up and we are sitting on the SAME COACH and on the same wifi. is this just a new bug?
Same can't connect... But when I first turned it on it connected for two minutes then disconnect them and now it won't even connect to servers and my wifi is working just fine...
On iOS at least connecting to local servers has changed. You now need to click the "New" button as if creating a new world, then click the button to the left of the "advanced" button. It looks like a plus with an arrow pointing to the right.
This brings up a screen requiring a name, an IP address and a port number. Assuming you havn't changed the port number on the server, leave it as the default. You will however need to get the ip address of the server/other device. Click the add server button, then the back button. The server should then be in the list of worlds.
That's as far as I've gotten so far. Connecting to the server, I always get a Can't connect to server error. I'm trying to connect to both another iPad and a Windows 10 machine with the same issue.
Also, on windows 10 you need to register it as a "Friends" machine as opposed to the above process.
Same problem here - my kids have identical iPads and were always able to join each other's worlds. Both have "Local Server Multiplayer" enabled, but the world doesn't appear on the other iPad to be able to join. Major disappointment to the kids, who were so excited about the contents of this update!
Will try between two windows 10 machines today. Perhaps the problem is that the other worlds are just not showing up and there has been NO change to how that is supposed to work. ie: They don't need to be registered as I previously thought.
Try resetting your router. That is the most common answer on the Mojang bug fix site. I am having an issue connecting my WIN 10 Edition to an iPad, but the iPads are connecting to each other fine.
Would having an Ethernet Cable on the Windows 10 machine affect the way the devices could connect.
EDIT: Was working for iPads, world shut off and once it was back on we could not reconnect.
I'm having the same problem, but with Android devices (phone and tablet). The devices will not detect games on the local network, and all of the setting are correct. Neither can connect to a pocketmine server instance running on my desktop machine on the same Wifi network either.
Same here. Connecting by local IP does not appear to work either. iPad to iPad is completely broken. If they don't fix this are there any other games similar to this they play the way minecraft used to play before they broke it?
same here! Two very disappointed boys. They were able to connect earlier today with an ipad and windows 10 pc but now nothing. We have tried Iphone6, ipad4 and windows 10 pc. However our old original ipad1 will connect with windows 10 pc. Weird because that thing hardly ever works in Minecraft PE.
Ya me and my brother r having the same problem with our minecraft game 0.12.1 ver. It's like every time we want to join each other's worlds on the iPad and iPhone 5c it's just plane rediculous I'd say but when I joined my brothers world, for some reason it worked in the morning weird?but it only worked one time and that was it no more joining with my brother again which is kinda stupid that it's not letting us play together on the wifi local multiplayer for minecraft pe I mean we've tried everything for it to work. It's still not working like it supposed to. I'm so mad about it 😡 but I'm really hopeing minecraft pe will do a bug fix soon for when it updates again
My kids and I are having the same issue. I believe I found a temporary fix. On each device: quit Minecraft (from multitasking), turn off bluetooth, launch Minecraft again. It should work as expected. I've only tried it out on three devices - iPad Air 2, iPad 3rd gen, and iPhone 6s. So far, so good.
[Edit] Nope. My bad. I didn't test it out long enough. It worked for one time and now it's gone again. I might try reinstalling MCPE.
Okay, so I tried reinstalling on all 3 devices (after backing up the worlds using an app to copy the world files). Worked fine. Turned bluetooth back on. Still worked fine. Changed the player names (from Steve to our names), and the iPhone stopped connecting. Player name on that had a space in it. I took out the space and it worked again. Once everyone got hooked up again, I decided to add the space back just to see what would happen. Well, it seems to be working fine. All three are playing normally for the moment. We shall see if it continues to work.
Backing up and reinstalling can be done right within iTunes as well. When connected to your computer, go into the Apps section of your device, scroll down to "File Sharing" section. Find and select Minecraft PE. You will see two folders: "games" and "internal." Copy them to your desktop. Once you delete and reinstall the Minecraft app, go back to this location and copy back those two folders.

Same issue is happening to me. Not even five feet away from another iOS iPhone pocket edition.
Same here.
We were less than one foot
Hmm some one with a kindle can connect to me..

BTW: Both ipads here are on iOS version 8.4.1

It worked!
step1. Go into wifi
step2. Go Into the menu thing of thewifi that you want to use BOOM there's the IP
(Btw There are no spaces in the IP)
step3. Enter the IP into the external IP area
step4. Name it and the press the done button!
Yep. Same here. Issue is on iPads. I've reset the router and it worked for a brief moment and then nothing.
The kids are super disappointed as they always play together (and have been waiting since 29 July for the new version to drop).
Also, same issue here. Using an iPhone and iPod Touch both with iOS 8, both on same home wifi network. We were connecting fine before the update.

I hope this helps somebody out there.
