When I downloaded the demo all I heard was "crackling" from my surface 3 speaker, I tried to plug in my 360 headphones, not realising they were the wrong size and it crashed MC. When I rebooted all was fine...then I bought the game and it's gone back to just crackling from the speaker. I recorded a video and on playback it's crackling.
Hi,
You should update your audio drivers if you are having audio issues.
If you need help doing so, create a new topic and I will assist you there.
I have a (non-pro) Surface 3 and had initial crackling and no sound at all after that. It has intel integrated audio so this may be relevant to others.
I solved it by
right clicking speaker icon in system tray
choosing playback devices
select playback device and choose properties
go to advanced
uncheck 'allow applications to take exclusive control of device'
uncheck 'enable audio enhancements'
The default format is greyed out for me so I couldn't change that (as someone else described in another post)
I have the same problem. I haven't played Minecraft in a while, it's updated to v1.11, I'm using Win 10 and I can't remember if I'm using the beta mode for Minecraft. No sounds whatsoever. I enabled the subtitles and it shows that sound is indeed supposed to be playing. Can't hear it though. Sound works on other programs.

Apparently I'm not on the win10 beta... But still no sound, even after quitting and re-entering minecraft multiple times.

Same problem. Playing on version 1.8.8 and on Win10. I don't hear sound. Sound is all the way up and working just not on Minecraft.
Issue is persistent. Although it's worth noting that for me while sound plays back on sites like Google Play Music, it doesn't for both Minecraft Win10 Edition and RunescapeNXT. Sound also plays back in locally-installed Blizzard games like Hearthstone. Having trouble isolating a trend here. Disabling priority control for my headphones didn't seem to change anything.
Yes I have checked all sound options. Everything is on. and turned up. I thought I heard the music earlier but maybe not???? Any ideas?
i am also having the same issue. all my sounds are up and working but im not getting anything through the game
Mine was actually a GeForce driver issue. Which turned into being another 2 hour fix. :(. Hope you got yours working.

I am sure its a beta issue and will most likely be fixed in a future update, because i updated my audio drivers and still have no sound.
Had the same problem, but sound returned after waiting it out for a while.
I'm Batman
I've figured out how to fix it on my machine, not sure if it's a guaranteed fix for everyone.
Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers > IDT High Definition Audio CODEC > Disable > Restart computer > Re-enable
Haven't had any problems, since. Hope this works for you guys!

Sorry guys, this is not the java edition support forum, nor is it a OS support forum.
I am having the same problem with sound on windows 10
