Sugar can wont grow?

My sugar cane won't grow in my world. Is it because it takes longer for them to grow, or is it a bug?

It usually takes one day for three to grow in my world. Water surrounds them on all sides and torches are around them so that may help.

Hm sugar cane grows rather fast so you must not be doing something right :S
