I have a new laptop and have just downloaded Minecraft. I was playing on my favorite server earlier today on 1.16.4 and 1.8.9 with both versions working. Now as I go back to 1.16.4 I keep getting an error message:

I've tried updated my Nvidia drivers, restarting my device, uninstalling and reinstalling the launcher, and allocating more RAM to the launcher, with none of that working.
Ran a scan, deleted a few items off my computer but there wasn't much that came up because it is brand new. Tried Minecraft, got the same error message. 1.8.9 still works fine.
Say something silly, Laugh 'til it hurts, Take a risk, Sing out loud, Rock the boat, Shake things up, Flirt with disaster, Buy something frivolous, Color outside the lines, Cause a scene, Order dessert, Make waves, Get carried away, Have a great day!
Also to clarify it happens on 1.16.4 while joining a server or attempting to make a private world. The game itself seems to be loading but no servers or worlds are working.

I did that and reset my computer, it still doesn't seem to work.
"This error also occurs when Java tries to open a socket on the IPv6 stack, but could't get a connection to the outside world. Try forcing the use of the IPv4 stack by adding -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true to the JVM Arguments in your launch installation (to edit your JVM arguments, click "Edit" on the profile you are using, then click "More Options")."
I added this to my Java start up and it worked! Thanks for the help

Run a scan with adwcleaner.

Post a HijackThis log.
Download it here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/hjt/files/2.0.5 beta/HijackThis.exe/download
Run HijackThis as Administrator, click on "I accept", then "Do a system scan and save a log file".
Then a text file will open. Copy everything, then paste it on https://paste.ubuntu.com and give us the link.
While it does sound scary, it does not give us any personal or sensitive information.

Get rid of Norton Security.
