i closed minecraft yesterday and just got on now. when I opened up the launcher it started updating, then some news popped up. but then it had a white error or warning bar above my minecraft version list thingy (and a migrating account warning as well), i checked on it and it said that the version was modified, i didn't really care but then i accidentally selected the normal version so i tried to go back to the optifine version, but it had jus disappeared, i tried to add it again but it just wont show up whenever i try and add it. i even tried to redownload it, no work.
tl;dr: updated minecraft launcher and optifine version disappeared and couldn't add it back, even when i re-downloaded it.
Mojang added a warning to alert you to the fact that you are using a modded client and that they can't be responsible for some of the experiences you have online.
You need to checkmark the "Modded" box in "Versions" tab in the launcher.

Odd, I never had that with the Mojang or Curseforge launcher use of the Vanilla launcher when using Fabric, Forge or Rift modloaders when it gave me that warning the few times I've used it since it first appeared. Not tried with Optifine though. I might have to look into the 'Modded' tickbox as I didn't know it existed. Just found it, good to know it's accessible in the snapshots/historical versions area of the installations tab. Seems to have been automatically selected for me (but i haven't rebuilt my launcher from scratch I guess or it knows I use it for that all the time I guess?)
TBH This 'we are not involved in you using fan content like mods, datapacks and more' stuff is perfectly understandable, but to me is annoying. The datapacks in regards to custom dimensions stops me from accessing worlds completely making me have to give up on using them or halts me to the point I need a mod to remove it, it's that hindering and annoying. And I (among others) know what I'm getting myself into with using fan content like mods and datapacks and aren't going to blame Mojang for it, but I guess for those that don't know any better it's understandable why they have to cover themselves.
