When I try starting any version of Minecraft that is 1.12.2 and lower, the game crashes with the message, "The game crashed whilst unexpected error
Error: java.lang.RuntimeException: No OpenGL context found in the current thread."
I've never used this version of Minecraft and I have no mods installed. I have tried uninstalling the launcher and re-installing it, along with Java, and nothing seemed to work.
edit: Updating my graphics card helped.... I also uninstalled the launcher along with the .minecraft folder on my pc (after backing up my worlds) this seemed to resolve the issue.
edit 2: Do not fullscreen your game in these older versions as it will cause the same issue
"Do not fullscreen your game in these older versions as it will cause the same issue" I don't have any issues with running 1.6.4 (a much older version than 1.12.2) in fullscreen - the issue must be with your computer; if it is still happening despite updated drivers did you use the official manufacturer's site to get new drivers? Windows Update does not download the latest drivers (conversely, the latest drivers are not always better since like any software they can have bugs).
Also, I doubt that simply fullscreening the game will cause a "No OpenGL context found" error, especially if it successfully started up in windowed mode (either OpenGL is available or it isn't) - I suspect this is a completely different issue and results in a completely different crash message (post a new crash report when trying to fullscreen the game). The crash may also be a JVM/driver crash, which results in a hs_err_pid log in the game directory (for example).
It could also be caused by a bug in older versions of LWJGL (pre-1.13) if the crash report mentions "Keyboard must be created before you can read events":
There are several fixes mentioned, such as making sure that your refresh rate is exactly 60 Hz, using a single monitor, or changing a setting in the NVIDIA control panel (not sure about other GPUs, they say to change "scaling" to "full screen" instead of "aspect ratio", or disable the setting altogether, which is not needed if you are running at native resolution/aspect ratio).

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
