So I made a single player game and opened it to LAN, using a VPN program my port number my friend managed to connect to my game. We played. Everything is ok.
Now I go to work and he cant play since I am the host. I would like to send my save game files to him so he could play and then I could join him and play together him being the host. Also I would like him to send the save game files back so I could then play when hes away and once again be the host.
So I tried sending him the saves folder without playerdata in it and he deleted his saves folder. Once he logged on he was me with my items.
Is there a way to change hosts without loosing progress ? I tried looking at forums and saw there are some NBT edinting options but I'm not really sure how to go about doing them.

don't delete the playerdata files. what you need to do is use NBTExplorer to delete the embedded player data from level.dat
