By "splash screen" do you mean the launcher or the game itself? It sounds like the game is crashing since I've never heard of the game unloading a world and returning to the main menu when an error occurs (aside from certain out of memory issues, but this displays a pretty obvious error screen). In any case, there should be at least an error message in the game output (go to settings in the launcher and make sure the game output log is enabled), and possibly a crash report (located in the "crash-reports" folder in the .minecraft folder).
by "splash screen" i mean the screen with "singleplayer, multiplayer, options, etc" not launcher. its not a crash and theres no error message it just doesnt load so it sends me back to main menu
Could you post the game output that appears when you try to load or create a world (you didn't say whether just existing worlds or new worlds fail to load)? I still think there is an error that is being recorded in the log, even if nothing seems to happen in-game. Otherwise, if you have a resource pack on try disabling it, and if that doesn't do anything try deleting or renaming the "options.txt" file in the .minecraft folder (it is known that incorrect settings can cause issues and this will reset everything. If you have Optifine there will also be "optionsof.txt").
as ive said it just goes back to main menu with nothing to say as if there are no problems no output it just says loading world and kicks me back to main menu for no reason with no message or output like i mean it doesnt even remotely hint that a problem occured and i dont use resource packs
it was working fine but now all of the sudden it just refuses to take me to the map
If you want help from us, you're gonna need to provide more information than that. So far I can only advice you to turn it off and on again.
ill i can tell you is when i open any map it sends me back to main menu
ive tried restarting minecraft and ive restarted computer but its no use

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
