So i built a 1.12.2 modpack for me and my roommates to play on... It works fine in singleplayer... No crashes.. no clashes.. and no real errors as of yet. The problem is when some one opens it to lan and someone else tries to join we get the "the received string length is longer than maximum allowed" error. I have no bukkit plugins only mods downloaded through the twitch/curse launcher.. Again.. everything work fine in single player. wish i could post a preview of latest log but its too big for anything to post to... (I am still new to building my own packs.. so if you have advice as well. that would be great..)
I seems they are out of the range of the LAN capabilities. I myself don't know the reach a player or signal strength needed to be playable/accessible with LAN sessions as I've always been within a short distance/the same building compared to say a few houses away trying to play with a friend as it's always been on a server instead of LAN for obvious reasons, but it seems they are unable to due to signal strength more so than a mod/plugin issue. If that is the case it's best to setup a server instead rather than a LAN session.
Hmm that is odd then. Maybe it's something to do with the modpack/serverside mods possibly. Can you show me a modlist?
I can't say for sure with networking software if using that to detect things might help compared to someone who knows how to solve the issue better than I do.
Technically as long as you have the same mods (I think config settings also should apply but I'm not sure) then it should be playable. But if your in the same building it should be fine (not sure if too many walls might be a reason as that can be a cause with networking due to interference compared to if it were just down the hallway/closer to either device on on a Laptop or PCs in the same room) but something to consider.
You could try maybe using the IP Address of the host and have the other join as I have done that with others if I didn't have a server but played with 1 other person. It's not the best solution (more so for outside of the house but if inside it should be fine) but it's still an option.

We are in the same house. And this is the first time we have had this issue... We have played plenty of regular modpacks recently with no issue..

Again.. works in single player.. but then gives the string length error.. We have never had that issue before.
