Hiya - I've been experiencing a weird issue underground where underground regions don't seem to render, such as in the screenshot. Other than it only seeming to happen underground, I can't identify any specific other circumstances in which it happens. When I approach the area, it suddenly appears. I have Optifine running with Sildur's shaders, but other than that it's vanilla. I'm playing on an iMac, if that's of any relevance.
Sorry that the screenshots not the best, but I think the "non-rendered" area is fairly clear. If anyone has any suggestions for fixes or has seen this before, let me know - Thanks!
Nah that makes no difference, render distance is already at 24 chunks and changing it doesn’t affect the issue - changing other in game video settings doesn’t either. I’ve tried reinstalling minecraft, playing without mods etc, and it still happens.
I can’t say for certain it only happens underground, but I’ve only experienced it in those circumstances. I’m running 1.14.4, but have also experienced it playing 1.12.2.
Nah it’s definitely not that, when you move forward a very short distance it all suddenly appears - Often stuff will be visible behind; the render distance is massively further than where the blocks become invisible.
Any help will be appreciated with this, it’s not game wrecking but it’s very annoying
Heres another clearer picture of it - I'm now running a vanilla instance of the same save file, with the de-rendered area much more visible in daylight. I can't say for certain whether or not it would occur in a vanilla instance in a new save file, I'll investigate, but in the meantime any thoughts on the cause of this would be greatly appreciated.
This is "normal"; it is due to the game not rendering chunks that you can't see, as a way to improve performance, but it isn't perfect since it makes some simplified assumptions about whether a chunk can be seen (a more through check would be more expensive to perform and possibly offset the benefit):
MC-63020 Chunks are not rendered in first person in some cases (all versions since 1.8 are affected; previously the game used a different method of culling hidden chunks which could be disabled but I know of no way to toggle it in current versions, including with mods like Optifine)

may increase the view distance

These not-rendered areas are often just not-loaded chunks which aren't covered by the far fog, which is very common and not a real issue.
How does it perform in vanilla (no mods/optifine/shaders)??

It does also appear to occur in vanilla saves as shown:

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
