Hey, I was playing Singleplayer today and I have quite frequent (not so bad but it is annoying with how frequent it is) lag spikes, but when I go on multiplayer, it's 100% fine. I've tried lowering Optifine graphics settings but i still get the lagspikes, even with graphics on fast and smooth lighting off.
Sounds like mem dumps. Do as Tails1 asked so we can help you allow MC to utilize more RAM. Also, what is your auto-save interval set too? That always give me a huge spike in SSP because of my slow HDD.
I don't exactly have the best graphics card, but I'm upgrading to a 1050ti in about 2 weeks. Also, I did get a message in chat saying "OpenGL Error: 1285 (Out of memory)", so RAM might need upgrading but I didn't think of that myself because I thought low RAM was indicated by block lag and chat lag, not spikes.
Oh sorry! Here are my JVM args: "-Xmx2G -XX:+UnlockExperimentalVMOptions -XX:+UseG1GC -XX:G1NewSizePercent=20 -XX:G1ReservePercent=20 -XX:MaxGCPauseMillis=50 -XX:G1HeapRegionSize=32M"
Oh sorry! Here are my JVM args: "-Xmx2G -XX:+UnlockExperimentalVMOptions -XX:+UseG1GC -XX:G1NewSizePercent=20 -XX:G1ReservePercent=20 -XX:MaxGCPauseMillis=50 -XX:G1HeapRegionSize=32M"
How much RAM does your system have? You are only using 2G of whatever is there. Change "-Xmx2G" to something larger to use more for MC. If you use Windows 10 you will need a gig just for that though. If you turn down your render distance like Tails said you won't need as much and then you won't experience the spikes as often. Don't forget that auto-save interval either.

Heeeeeeelp
Post a screenshot with F3 enabled and your JVM arguments.

Update nvidia drivers. Turn down render distance below 16.

Ah, I didn't look at that. I stand by auto-saves being to frequent in that case.
I have 16GB of RAM on my PC.
I think increasing RAM would help, because I got this message earlier:
, so (I'm not very good at these types of things) I could try increasing to like, 8 GB RAM?
Go for it bro. That will leave you plenty for Discord and any other background programs you might be using.
