I have a new Laptop and tried to launch minecraft. It works with intels onboard GPU, but my PC is running near its limit (90% workload on the intel GPU with mods).
When I try to launch vanilla Minecraft with my dedicated GPU (GeForce 940MX), there is just a white screen.
Everything else seems to be working because I can hear the minecraft music playing and I can start a new world and destroy block all without visual feedback.
This happens
- with every version I tested (1.5, 1.7, 1.9, 1.12, 1.13)
- with java version 51 and with java version 191 (the one in the MC folder and the one all other applications use)
- whether I install MC on C:/ or on D:/
- with updated drivers (this is going on for a while now, so I tested this with multiple drivers)
- with every application set to use the nvidia GPU via the nvidia control panel
- with power plugged in and at 100% performance
Also, I can run the launcher with the nvidia GPU and it works fine. only when the javaw.exe is run by the nvidia GPU, problems occure.
I cannot think of anything else I could try. Can someone help me?
[edit]
Does not relate to MC, but may help here. A similar issue occures with particular other games. Games that are invisible with the nvidia GPU that I tested today were:
- stephens sausage roll
- overcooked
Games that do work with the nvidia GPU
- C.U.B.E. 2
- Desponia
- Table Top Simulator
more testing has to be done at some point
Kind regards.
TL;DR
Can play minecraft with second GPU but can't see anything except a white screen
Done. I edited some parts that I thought weren't important and contrained information I don't want to upload to the internez. Sorry about my paranoya. Let me know if you need some of the censored data and thanks for the help.
The graphics drivers are from Feb 2017. Time to update.
Wow I feel so stupid now. All I had to do was update BOTH GPU drivers *facepalm*
Seems like the outdated intel GPU drivers were the issue. Thanks!
(I updated them via the device manager, which might have been a bad idea, but when I tried using the newest one on the intel website, it wouldn't install as I got an error that the driver has not been validated for my PC)
there is nothing personal in a dxdiag log, post the whole log un-edited, and just because you thing its not important, doesn't mean its something thats not needed
The DxDiag can reveal my country and my PC name, which I would like to avoid sharing. And I know that the issue was caused by the GPU(s), so I reckon information on my sound/camera/etc devices will not contribute to the problem here, and the less I share the better I feel, even if it is unreasonable. The sound device in my case would also reveal information about my country.

Solution:
Update BOTH GPU drivers to a validated revision
Follow the instructions here http://hopper.minecraft.net/help/pixel-format-not-accelerated/support/
