I have installed Minecraft on Linux (I also use Forge, though my problem happens with and without Forge).
When I play on servers, they usually put you in a lobby when you first log in. When you try to change lobbies or go into a minigame, the loading screen shows and should warp you to the game. This happens exactly the way it is supposed to on Windows, but on Linux, it will continuously show the loading screen until one of two things happen:
1) It shows a Java exception java.io.IOEXCEPTION: error while write(...) broken pipe
(this shows on the old launcher of Minecraft; that is the .jar version of the MC launcher.
2) It shows a "Server Timed Out" error.
This only happens on Linux, and on my Windows PC, there has never been this issue.
Linux PC specs:
Intel® Core™ i3-6006U CPU @ 2.00GHz × 4
Intel® HD Graphics 520 (Skylake GT2)
64-bit
8GB RAM
(it is also worth noting that my copy of Linux (Ubuntu) is installed on a USB flash drive)
