For some reason, I am unable to play minecraft any more. I recently re-imaged my computer and reloaded minecraft. I am trying to play modded minecraft, but realized regular minecraft is still laggy. I am getting around 1-15 fps no matter how low I put the graphics or how much ram I allocate. Below are my specs.
OS: Windows 10
Processor: Intel i7-4790 @3.60GHz
RAM: 24 GB
System Type: 64-bit OS Desktop
GPU: Nvidia GeForce 970
PLEASE HELP! I dont understand whats going on or what I should do to fix this! I just want to play some modded minecraft!!!!!!
I disabled GeForce Experience and created a new world. But I am still only getting 20 FPS at max. I think it might have to do something with me using Java 1.8.0_25. I just installed 1.8.0_172, but I cant seem to get minecraft to use this version. It always wants to go to the Minecraft->Runtime folder for java. I am going to do a fresh install of all minecraft and see what happens.
Java 1.8.0_25 should work fine; Mojang provides that version because it is known to have no problems with the game (at least not vanilla; one could compile a mod with a later version but modders should generally not compile for the latest version; MCP for 1.6.4 actually generates Java 6 code even if a later JDK is used since MCP tells it to compile for that version).
Also, you should be able to edit the Java version that a profile uses (as seen here) and it should stay as long as the checkbox is checked. As mentioned above, this does not seem to be related to the issue though (you should reset the JVM arguments though as using nonstandard arguments has been known to cause problems; unchecking the box will cause the launcher to reset them).
I have uninstalled minecraft, deleted the .minecraft folder and verified that the program path (Program Files (x86) -> Minecraft) have been deleted. Upon a fresh install, I still only get less than 20 FPS. This is with leaving Java arguments left at the default settings. Im at a loss. The only thing I could think would be effecting this would be the Nvidia settings under the Nvidia Control Panel. Does anyone have any suggestions on which settings I should use for this, both global and for the individual Minecraft program? Or does anyone have any clue as to what else my issue could be? Banging my head against a wall.

I got the below argument from a reddit post. The guy uses 4G of RAM, but I've tried this with 2, 4, 6, and 8 GB of RAM.
-XX:+UseG1GC -Xmx4G -Xms4G -Dsun.rmi.dgc.server.gcInterval=2147483646 -XX:+UnlockExperimentalVMOptions -XX:G1NewSizePercent=20 -XX:G1ReservePercent=20 -XX:MaxGCPauseMillis=50 -XX:G1HeapRegionSize=32
Disable GeForce experience overlay.
Also there are about 700 entities in your world which can cause lag, try moving away from them.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
