Doesn't matter what the press says. Doesn't matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn't matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right. This nation was founded on one principle above all else: the requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world — "No, you move
Are you sure that the game is set to /using a different game directory? That crash occurs when the game tries to read an options.txt file created by a newer version:

Are you sure that the game is set to /using a different game directory? That crash occurs when the game tries to read an options.txt file created by a newer version:
Game versions 1.5.2 and lower crash when starting in a newer version's folder
Even if you did select a different game directory versions before 1.6 do not properly support using a non-default directory:
Trouble with multiple custom directories (this is not actually a launcher bug but a game bug which affects 1.5.2 and older versions)
It is best to run 1.5.2 in the default location (.minecraft) and use a custom directory for newer versions instead of the other way around.
TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
