I just decided to load up Minecraft after probably a 3 year or longer break from the game. I started up my main map with all my creations and to my surprise after the map finished converting, lots of grassblocks were missing and was sort of just removed from the map.
Now last time I played was back in the 1.0 days, so I tried it out with version 1.0(of course, using the unconverted map) and it seems to be working all fine.
Why is this happening and how can I fix it? I am fairly sure it has something to do with the world conversion. I did convert this world to a new world format in the past but that was around 1.0. I believe there was another new world format released after that sometime during my break.
Yes, sea level was changed somewhere along the line, either the land was lowered or the sea was raised, I forget which. There is a tool to fix this, but it isn't the easiest to use, here's the thread
2. Adjust sea height. This step is optional but highly recommended if merging a map from a version of Minecraft before 1.8. The sea has been moved down by 1 block in Minecraft 1.8 and it is recommended you adjust the map accordingly. To do this run (make sure you have the correct world name):
NOTE: If you experience any problems with this method you can still do this with MCEdit; nudge the whole world down by one block but make sure you leave the lower most block level intact so you still have a solid bedrock.
At least I think that is your problem, but maybe not, you could also have a block ID error where your grass is getting replaced by water for some reason.
