Hi, I have found myself in a tough situation. I am unable to launch any minecraft version higher than 1.7.10, else it crashes after pressing the play button. I have tried several java versions and several driver versions, but I'm unable to launch. Any help is appreciated.
I can hardly send DxDiag, because I do not use Windows on my computer. I can send output from lshw, though.

And can you try running 'xrandr' in xterminal, and post what it's saying? (If it's installed)
Should look something like this;
:~$ xrandr Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1280 x 720, maximum 16384 x 16384 DisplayPort-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DVI-0 connected primary 1280x720+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 531mm x 299mm
If xrandr is not installed, can you install it? Doing so might fix the problem. It should be in the official repositories, I think
I didn't have xrandr installed and it was in the official repos. I installed it and boom, Minecraft 1.12.1 launches right away.
I have to say, I am amazed that all it took was one simple package to fix a week worth of frustration.

System: Gentoo linux (kernel version 4.9.34)
Java: 8u131
CPU: Intel i5-6600K
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1070
post a dxdiag log so we can see what driver and Hardware you got.
It looked as your computer can't run Minecraft higher than 1.7.10.
