Hi. I run a Forge server with lots of mods and everything has always ran fine. I recently installed Lycanite's Mobs and was really enjoying it except after my friend or me die, sometimes there is a massive lag spike.
Usually if we go to Video Settings and toggle VBOs the lag goes away completely. That's bizarre, right? But over time, the lag spikes happen even when we don't die and after even more time, the VBO workaround trick stops working too.
To describe the lag, it's the kind where the system freezes for like 2 seconds every 3 seconds.
I thought it might be a lack of RAM, so I traded the server over to my friend via Google Drive, who has 64GB of RAM on his rig, and he allocated 32GB to the Minecraft server. But this problem still persisted.
Further, this problem persisted even during single player, even after I uninstalled every other mod but Lycanite's Mobs, to ensure it wasn't an incompatibility issue.
My friend and I really like Lycanite's Mobs. Does anyone else have this issue? Can anyone please help us?
For anyone in the future with this problem, I fixed it.
Sometimes lag is client-side, so you have to allocate more RAM to your Minecraft app, not just to your Minecraft server. To do that, use the JVM arguments in the Minecraft launcher. The arguments -Xms1024M -Xmx3072M will start your app with 1GB of RAM and it will use as much as 3GB if it needs to.
By default, the game only allocates about one gig of RAM. If you press F3 you can see how much is being used at the top right. For me it was 90%+ which explains why I lagged. This solved the issue for my friend and me.

I should've known this, but yeah.
