Hi all, Now I have learnt a lot more about computers but this current issue has buffled me..
so- my minecraft normally used to run on about 100-500 fps. now yes I know anything over 60fps causes moniter tearing or whatever and I used the standard JVM argument in my launcher. anyways recently I installed a cool faithful edited texturepack and installed 5zig along with optifine.
its been normal except out of nowhere one day my fps drops and NEVER goes over 60.
***
I know that 60 is the highest really but for example if there is a big explosion or lots of particles my fps goes from about 60 down to like 20.
when I used to get 100-500 fps when there was a explosion or something it went from for example, 306-248 and it still ran smoothly because obviously 248 is over 60.
I recently installed another 2g of ram so my specs are now
4gb ram
some crappy cpu I think its a Pentium 4 dual core
emachine motherboard & moniter
some beast NVIDA GEFORE graphics card not sure what version.
***
I heard that vertical-sync has something to do with this error. and guess what I turned it off ingame and in the NVIDA control panel.
earlier I left my minecraftrunning and I was on a server just afking and I was on the toilet. when I came back for a split second I read the fps and it said 187...... then I clicked back to game and it dropped to 60...
Does someone know a reason? ive been searching for ages....
Recently I was muddying with settings and well yes I did turn on Vsync in game for minecraft.
but actually I don't think I mentioned but in the Nvidia control panel Vsync was turned on for minecraft and it had been like that for months and it wasn't limiting my fps. When Vsync was turned on in the Nvidia control panel and Vsync off in game my minecraft fps wasn't limited until now. What could this mean? Why am I now being limited?
I don't neeeeeeed more fps but it's just that I want to know what the error is so I can learn stuff. And yes I've customised the settings figuring out what works and doesn't in which fact none worked. I tried wth vsync on ingame and off in NVidia off in nividia and on in game vice versa and ive tried both off and both on. still getting 60.
What does this mean "
And then, if you really need to play fullscreen, get borderless window mod." btw is "mod" meant to be mode?
I never mentioned fullscreen. if I go fullscreen will it fix it? havnt tried...
The reason I really want more than 60 is because if Im playing mc on a server and a bunch of particles appear any fool knows that my fps will drop to like 20-40 but for example if I have like 120+ or whatever it was before than my fps will still be above 60 so even with all the particles my mc will still run smoothly. I don't care much for monitor tearing since I know how to get cheap good monitors.

Well I see what you mean. I never play in fullscreen and don't wish to.
and not just particles but sometimes when loading chunks my fps drops but if I have a lot it wont go to far.
my ingame fps limiter is set to Unlimited and always has been.
