Not sure where to go about this nor what all information anyone would need so I chose here as I've gotten great help before.
Few weeks ago I updated to El Capitan to which my Blue Yeti mic started acting up. I assumed it was the update after reading about it so I made a bootable USB of Yosemite. COMPLETELY formatted my computer and reinstalled Yosemite. Mic still jacked, but that's not the major issue.
I have everything set back to how I had it, I had taken screen shots of everything on OBS. I have 4 GB of ram dedicated to MC I even currently have Optifine on all lowest (fastest) setting with a render distance of 6.
Now at first it seemed I was only getting lag with OBS open, not even recording (though it got a lot worse when I do record). I just did a skywars run with obs closed and I lagged real bad, however even a single player map was a LITTLE bit laggy.
It seems whenever I try to use OBS (even on a single player map) I lag in a hardcore way. I know it's not the internet as again SPM lags.
All my settings on both OBS and Minecraft are as they were before but now I'm laggy to the point where I can't even record..
Specs:
OS X Yosemite
8GB ram, 4gb to MC
Intel i7
Java updated to latest version
(Not sure what else anyone would need)
Other tid-bits:
OBS idles at 2% cpu like it did before. Kicking up to 14% while recording (which i never checked before).
NO other programs are open. Chrome, skype, premiere EVERYTHING is closed with only OBS and MC running if recording.
Anyone have any idea what could possibly be the cause? I never used to lag like this before and it's just strange seeing that it's on a fresh format. On that note initially after format I didn't have that problem however, I haven't installed anything recently other than Tor, Discord and Adobe Reader but I fail to see how those would affect this situation as they are never open.
Thanks and sorry for the long post and probably lack of enough specs.
We would need your GPU, as that is a major piece of hardware. OBS and MineCraft both use your GPU; MineCraft especially. As it stands, it sounds like OBS and MineCraft are having a fit about your graphics card not being powerful enough. Until you list your card, that's my conclusion. If it so happens that you're using Intel Integrated graphics via your i7 (It would be be nice to know the actual model of your i7.) then that is self explanatory.
On another note, Macs, and the Apple OS aren't really made for gaming. They are more of a media machine - such as movies and music.

Yea I was thinking about adding graphics card not sure why I didn't.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
2.6 GHz Intel Core i7
As I said I've never had an issue with lag before. It's strange that just OBS being open causes the issue which leads me to believe what you said.
Also, I believe my computer has 2 graphics card (only shows one in about but I know I have 2) The other is intel. I just remember from a long while ago finding out I had 2. Again because it's not listed I'm not sure the model.
I'm aware Macs aren't made for gaming but it's what I have, worked fine up until formatting. I'd like to get a gaming comp but 2 kids take priority haha.
Ah... so it's a laptop, then. Sill, that's an okay card. And that rules out the possibility of it being that. Have you changed to a different MineCraft version since your last lag-free experience? And are you using Vanilla, or Mods? This is kind of the ''Unmodified'' client support section, but I figured I ought to ask anyways, as having too many mods can cause lag.
Also, that isn't your i7 model lol. That's the clock speed. What I was asking for, was the numbers that come after ''i7''. Such as i7-6700, or i7-4790. Regardless, an i7 is generally overkill for recording in the first place. So, it shouldn't matter; that wouldn't be the issue. Could I ask you to please record something in MineCraft like you normally would, and then stop after like one minute? Then on the OBS interface, click this:
And then link that URL it gives you, here.
One more thing... I decided to re-read your post, and I have a question. Why would you need to update your Operating System, to support a microphone? I've never used Apple software before, so I'm honestly curious. On Windows, you just plug the microphone in, and you're done.

Yes a laptop. I know I know I'm not exactly top par for gaming nor recording but like I said I've literally had NO problems in the past.
One thing I do want to mention that I also have noticed happening at the same time. Premiere Pro now takes roughly 1 hour or more to export a 15 minute video, whereas before it'd taken roughly 25 minutes on average before.
I also uploaded the video so you can get a visual of how extreme the lag really is.
Again prior to this I was getting between 25 to 30 FPS which is keyed into me recording 29.97 and editing the same etc.
I addressed this in the video but it's about 3 to 4 minutes long so the whole thing with the mic was. I just decided to finally update to El Capitan. After which my mic got a lot of static. I did a lot of reading about this and read that Apple messed with some Kext relating to USB hubs after trying several 'hackintosh' fixes that didn't work I decided to revert back to Yosemite (which I never got static on). (sadly I still get static and am waiting on a powered usb hub that may fix the problem. Always got to try the cheapest fixes first).
Just noticed this. I'm actually running 1440x900 (mac's 16:10) 1080 was via my TV testing run earlier but not here. I had it set to 1440x900 No sure if it matters.
By the way I REALLY appreciate you attempting to help me like you are.
This is so weird. I did just a little "no video today" video and it was lagging HARDCORE for the first 2.4 minutes and then just magically cleared up. This was strictly face cam nothing else. I'm so baffled and am never stumped by things like this.
You can see in the first few seconds how horrible the lag is then amazingly if you fast forward to 2:30 it clears up almost completely....

Erm... okay. First off, the log claims that you're attempting to record at a framerate of 30,000. I think that might be the crux of your issue. Just to be certain, I installed OBS myself to test it out, at the settings your log file dicated. I recorded a short video at 30fps, and then checked the log file. It showed the ''fps_num:'' to only be ''30''. I then set the fps to 30,000 and tried again. This time, my video was a bit more laggy. I stopped it, and checked the log again.
It showed to be 30,000, exactly like yours. On another note, it seems that OBS doesn't like Windows 10. It completely disabled my start button. I had to restart Windows Explorer (the taskbar) after closing OBS. Anyways... is this what your fps settings look like, in the OBS settings?
If so, please try clicking on ''Common FPS Values'' and recording with 30fps. Attempt to record again, and let me know the results. Here's the two times I recorded:
First video, showing your log file and highlighting the 30,000fps; I recorded at 30fps during this:
Second video, showing my last log file and highlighting the 30fps; I recorded at 30,000fps, during this time:
I have a few more things to note... Your graphics driver appears to be severely out of date - it's version 310.41. Nvidia is currently on version 368.22, so you may wish to update that. I looked up a number of OBS forum posts, on their website, and I guess OBS is generally awful on Macs in the first place, according to the developers. Although what you're experiencing shouldn't be occurring. Hopefully setting your fps to 30, will work. Your i7 is an i7-3720QM which is an incredibly hefty CPU, for a laptop. I'm honestly surprised by it. I have an i7-6700; yours is just below that, in terms of processing power.
As for the Mic thing... wow. That seems like a lot of trouble, just to keep running a Mac OS. Is there any way that you could just install Windows on it? I'm fairly certain that your laptop could be formatted to run it. I apologise for not responding quickly, after my last reply to you, I waited about an hour and then decided to take a nap. I guess my nap, turned into a few hours of rest, lol.

Didn't realize the graphics card was out of date. I'l look into updating the drivers. As for fps fraction FPS values are 30:1 however I use common FPS values set at 29.97. I'll update the Graphics card drivers and run a test and report back.

I don't have any big processes running. Like I said in OG post it's usually just OBS and MC running. Very well could be heading toward HDD failure as the original HDD in this (2012) Mac died and I replaced it with the HDD from my (2011) Mac. Hopefully that's not the case.

It might be worth looking into what gerbil mentioned, as well. They are correct; I didn't think about the fact that your HDD might be failing. To check it, follow these steps:
More and more every day I'm beginning to hate Mac so much...
Nvidia didn't have anything so I looked it up and BLAM:
"On Mac OS X the graphics driver is part of the operating system. You can only upgrade by upgrading to a newer version of the operating system. "
Well... it seems like you're not alone in these issues, either. Have a look, here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6704008?start=0&tstart=0 All these users there, updated to Yosemite and they all have a Mac laptop, with a GT 650M graphics card, all with the same driver.
One of them found a fix, here's the quote:
''An Apple Genius suggested I remove (com.nvidia.CUDASoftwareUpdate.plist) from Launchagents and (com.nvidia.cuda.launcher.plist) from LaunchDaemons to deactivate the Cuda driver. END OF ISSUE. So it's clear that something is amiss here. Hopefully Apple & Nvidia track this down soon!''
Maybe you could try this? I don't know how you would go about doing it, as I know nothing about navigating a Mac OS.

Interesting I didn't change anything. Recorded the same map as I did yesterday (optifine 1.9.2 - min/ fastest settings) for you started out completely lag free. Running around map (jump running) perfect. I then decided to interact with doors and chest and shortly after lag city.
Testing Gerbil's theory I set to record to an external which is what I used to do in the beginning. Same events as previous post. Starts out fine then lag city. May also be interesting to note my whole computer is lagging at the moment. Typing this there is lag in it. But after closing OBS the lag has slowly stopped.

Huh... this is starting to make me wish I knew more about Macs.. I feel like I'm not able to help you as much as I could, if I wasn't so ignorant about it. Could I please get you to try recording one video, with a different recorder? Such as Apple's own QuickTime. I feel like the cause of your current lag, might be OBS.
I know that you previously said that you never had issues with OBS, prior to updating.. but, that might be why you have issues, now. OBS may not be liking something that the update did. Try using QuickTime for one video, and let me know how it works out.
As a side note, after I installed OBS and ran it for those two videos, having it open afterwards caused lag in all parts of my PC - including typing, as you described. It wasn't consistent, just at random intervals.
Edit:
Since you do have a Nvidia card, you might actually be able to use Nvidia Shadowplay. I'm not sure how it might function on a Mac, nor if it's even capable of being on a Mac as I know little to nothing about them.
1. Changed OBS bitrate to 15000 just because I read that 15K - 20K is good for 720p videos. (Doubt that did anything ha)
2. Opened up my mac and cleaned out all the lovely dust from the fans.
3. Feeling more strongly about Gerbil's idea I ran disk utilities and got the following. (See image below). Repaired.
4. Verified permissions, of the few I got, the following stood out:
Permissions differ on “Library/Java”; should be drwxr-xr-x ; they are drwxrwxr-x .
Repaired
5. Recorded. Same map, same actions opening closing all doors imaginable, trap doors, chest etc that seemed to cause the lag before. NOTHING this time. Flawless.
Quavalen - Though your suggestions may not have directly solved the issue, it helped me learn some things about my Mac I didn't know. It also got the creative think outside the box juices flowing and I greatly appreciate your time and effort.
Another thing to investigate might be your hard disk.
Gerbil - Thanks for the input. I never even thought about verifying disk and permissions for some reason. But your remark is what led me to try it out. Thank you.
Goes to show two minds are better than one!
Thanks again guys you've made me extremely happy, both knowing there's people that care and are willing to help people they don't know and because I'm finally lag free (just hope it holds up).

Edit:
Just saw I missed a post from Quavalen where she did suggest verifying disk and permissions. So boom you win! lol
I'm glad that you managed to find the solution. Hopefully it remains lag-free, as I know just how irksome it can be. I used to play on an old toaster from 2005; never going back to that lol.

HAHA. One day I'll get a nice gaming computer. This has been doing great for me (as far as minecraft, TF2 is another story) for the almost year I've been doing YT.
Glad you figured it out. Macs are not my forte so conceptual ideas are about my limit there once you get away from MC.
But it was your headshot video that convinced me it was unlikely to be anything MC specific [ although it could have been if MC failed to terminate properly and there was a rogue process still running]
I had a HD with errors a few years back and it was the annoying behavior of applications that made me investigate. Your problems could have been caused by an uncontrolled shutdown perhaps corrupting the file system, but it could be a result of the HD beginning to fail, you might want to check out more Mac disk utilities and see if you can see the SMART statistics (google finds this https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/135565/how-do-i-get-detailed-smart-disk-information-on-os-x-mavericks-or-later ) Some of the error counters are important indicators of impending death

Another thing to investigate might be your hard disk. Early signs of hard disk failure include having to retry reads or writes because of soft failures. This causes performance glitches and freezes. Eventually the soft failures become hard failures.
More and more every day I'm beginning to hate Mac so much...
Nvidia didn't have anything so I looked it up and BLAM:
"On Mac OS X the graphics driver is part of the operating system. You can only upgrade by upgrading to a newer version of the operating system. "
It might be worth looking into what gerbil mentioned, as well. They are correct; I didn't think about the fact that your HDD might be failing. To check it, follow these steps:
I found that, here: http://osxdaily.com/2012/05/24/check-hard-drive-health-mac-disk-utility/
• Ryzen 9 3900x @4.2GHz
• 64GB DDR4 @3200MHz
• MSI RTX 2080 Ti Gaming X Trio
• 2TB NVMe SSD
• 6TB in HDD space
• Four monitors at 4k
All these users there, updated to Yosemite and they all have a Mac laptop, with a GT 650M graphics card, all with the same driver.
One of them found a fix, here's the quote:
Maybe you could try this? I don't know how you would go about doing it, as I know nothing about navigating a Mac OS.

Interesting I didn't change anything. Recorded the same map as I did yesterday (optifine 1.9.2 - min/ fastest settings) for you started out completely lag free. Running around map (jump running) perfect. I then decided to interact with doors and chest and shortly after lag city.

Can't think of what's causing this. Almost feels like it's maybe Minecraft but not sure why.
Current profile JVM flags:
-Xmx2G -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -XX:+CMSIncrementalMode -XX:-UseAdaptiveSizePolicy -Xmn128M
Those came standard only think I've ever changed was ram Xmx from 1G to 4G and last night back to 2G
Here: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201066
That apple document, will show you how to use QuickTime.
What I do know, is that if you have GeForce Experience, you should have access to Shadowplay. I explained more about this, here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/show-your-creation/video-series-help/technical-help/2675247-best-free-screen-recorder-to-record-minecraft?comment=9

Ok big update!
Fixed, so it appears.
Steps I did in order.

So boom you win! lol
Awesome! =)

Thanks again Quavalen
I had a HD with errors a few years back and it was the annoying behavior of applications that made me investigate. Your problems could have been caused by an uncontrolled shutdown perhaps corrupting the file system, but it could be a result of the HD beginning to fail, you might want to check out more Mac disk utilities and see if you can see the SMART statistics (google finds this https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/135565/how-do-i-get-detailed-smart-disk-information-on-os-x-mavericks-or-later ) Some of the error counters are important indicators of impending death
