Haven't played Minecraft since the early 1.8 era, decided to give it a shot on a new computer after my last one failed. Family organised a Linux machine that's working fairly well, but not sure how to get Minecraft to work.
I'm able to log in, but when I click Play the game fails. This is the error report:

Is it possible to fix the problem, whatever it is, without using the Terminal? I was never really comfortable with coding. Otherwise, I can try to find and supply other information as necessary.
my first guess would be something about graphic drivers. which do you use, the official catalyst drivers, or the open source ones? the official ones are still the better choice for linux user, try switching to them (menu > system administration > drivers)
of course restart after installing. sorry for that tip, but some people need it.
Didn't realise stuffing around with the drivers (whatever they are) would require rebooting. Kinda new to the whole linux thing. Had switched from "open source" to the "recommended" ones as part of some other set of instructions.
In any case, the game has now loaded to the single/multiplayer screen, which means it might be OK from here out. Now I just have to remember how to play. Thanks again
In case anyone else has similar issues, I downloaded the program "minecraft.jar" from the website, via properties change it to allow it to run as an executable, then rightclick and "Open with OpenJDK Java 7 Runtime".
