Everytime i try and play a version that's not 1.8 or above whether it be in single player, or a server that supports a verion like 1.7.9 my game just crashes and i'm not too sure what to do. It worked fine before but the last few month it's been acting up and i'm not sure why. 1.8 and above works fine for me, i havent tried 1.9 yet though. Any help would be great, thanks.

You set your render distance high while playing 1.8, and that value is illegal when you go back to pre-1.8.
Turn it down.
